Sam
Things go to hell so quickly I hardly have time to register the blood pooling at my feet before I'm scrambling out the door and running into the darkness. Jake and Lena are running ahead of me and I can hear the demons behind us. I risk a look behind me and I'm blinded by the headlights of a car. I trip over roots as I reach the edge of the forest and windmill my arms in an attempt to stay upright. Ahead of me I hear Lena scream and then someone grabs my arm to steady me. I look up into the face of Jake except his eyes are wild.
"What happened to Lena?" I pant, but he doesn't respond.
I look up at his face again, then glance back to see how soon we need to start running again. The demons have all stopped at the edge of the woods. I can see the headlights moving closer now. Whoever it is will be here soon.
I whip around when I hear a silky voice behind me. "Well done boys, it's down to the two of you."
I straighten, immediately at attention and see Jake stiffen out of the corner of my eye.
"I'm sure you're wondering why I brought you here and all will be explained. To the winner." He continues. "As I'm sure you'll understand, I don't want to have to explain myself twice and seeing as at the end of the day there will only be one of you I'm inclined to wait."
"What do you mean there will only be one of us?" I growl at him.
He laughs, and I don't have look behind me to know that the cars are getting closer because the tress are light up with yellowish light.
"Oh Sam, I do love your naivety! There will only be one of you because the other will be dead. All the other contestants I selected have been eliminated."
I glance at Jake and see him looking at his hands. For the first time I notice the dark spots on his dark jeans.
"As soon as I give the word, the two of you will be left alone to finish things."
"And what if we refuse." Jake asks, voice shaking almost imperceptibly.
The yellow eyed demon looks at us and smirks. "You won't."
With that he waves his hand and vanishes. When I turn around, all the demons behind us are also gone and the two cars are barreling towards us.
Dean
I skid to a stop just shy of the trees and jump out, grabbing the gun from my passenger seat. I hear bobby doing the same thing behind me. He found a vague mention of a super special gun called the colt being able to kill demons in some book. Seeing as he had it, he brought it along as a kind of experiment. If we come across Azazel, he will have a bullet between his brows. Whether he stays dead or not that won't feel good.
I start running towards Sam, bobby close behind. Before I can get more than ten steps the kid next to Sam makes the sign of the cross and stabs him in the chest.
I see Sam's mouth open in surprise, then blood bubbles up between his lips and starts spilling over. I scream and run even faster towards where my brother is crumples on the ground.
Carlisle
I'm still reeling from Charlie's words and we've been fighting for at least 10 minutes. Usually my mind empties during a battle and the fight is all I can think about but instead this time I'm keeping the demons at bay but my head is stuck on how he looked when he said he loves me.
He loves me. Me. Of all the people in the world he could love he chose me.
I dodge a demon and follow it with my eyes to make sure it doesn't hurt Charlie. Who loves me. Who I love.
He turns to look at me and I open my mouth to tell him, but before I can a scream tears through the quiet of the night. There had been a very short very female one that had cut through the night earlier, but this was different. This was the kind of scream that I've only heard when a piece of someone's soul is torn out. The kind of scream that might be ripped out of someone's throat when their, say brother, is killed.
I grab Charlie's hand and pull him onto by back. "Hold on tight." I tell him.
Once I'm sure he has a good grip, I take off through the trees towards the source of that scream.
Sam
I'm staring at Dean when I feel the knife go into my chest. The betrayal cuts deeper than the knife. I trusteed Jake, protected him, and taught him how to survive with the demons. And he replayed me with a knife to the back.
I see Dean racing towards me, his mouth open in a scream of agony.
I see Bobby raise his gun a shoot, the demon is back and then he's gone. Sulfur floats to the ground.
I'm floating above my body, and I see Dean on the ground next to me, cradling my head and sobbing.
I see Carlisle with Charlie on his back come out of the forest at speeds I hadn't thought possible.
I see bobby stalking towards Jake, gun aimed at his head.
And then it all fades to black.
Dean
I stay with Sam's head in my lap for ten minutes as Bobby fills in Charlie and Carlisle on what happened.
"It's over Dean. You have to let him go." Bobby finally says. "We should burn him soon."
"NO!" I yell, pulling his body closer.
"Dean." Bobby says, pity and sorrow lacing his voice.
I can feel teach coursing down my face but I can't bring myself to care. "I'll do it. Let me do it."
Bobby nods and goes back to the other. I hope they leave soon. I know what I have to do, and I can't do it with them here. I have to fix this and there's only one why I know how to do that.
I don't know what convinces them, but bobby gets Carlisle and Charlie into his truck, and they leave me with Sam's body. As soon as the light from their head lights are gone, I stand up and wipe the tears off my face and start the preparations.
