"Now that Evangeline is gone I'm gonna be honest; those scrambled eggs were horrible." After Reed was done stitching me up, Evangeline wanted to thank him by making eggs. I honestly don't know how she could have messed up eggs. They were a little bit uncooked and very, very salty. We pretend to like it, of course, but she can definitely do better.

"Hey, don't be mean. They were good." Matteo started protecting Evangeline. He had a little soft spot for her. "You couldn't do any better." He said as he took the last sip of his beer.

"Slow down, lover boy. Don't make Miro jealous." I throw him a look but Reed just smirks. "Come on, it's clear as day that you have some feelings for her."

"I do not like her." My voice came out more pitched than I intended to. I clean my throat and continue talking. "She's just nice to have around and I like hanging out with her. Just like all of you."

"Well, those are some feelings so I was right." He had this prideful voice like he had just won something. He hasn't won shit.

"Yeah, but not feelings like in liking."

"I've never said that."

"Doesn't Evangeline remember you of Amelie?" With that sentence, Matteo stopped me and Reed and made us turn our heads to him. He had his eyes closed, with his head leaned on the chair. "They do look alike. The first time I saw her I did thought Amelie was back."

Matteo was right. I also thought Evangeline looked like her when we first met at the lake. They had the same face shape, same eyes, same nose. Her voice also sounds like Amelie's. They looked alike but I knew for a fact that Evangeline wasn't Amelie.

"Maybe she is Amelie." It broke my heart that Matteo still hopes. He hopes that Amelie will come back. The two of them had a different connection. They were both the same. Quiet, shy and sad. They never were together but me and Reed knew that they had feelings for each other. It was obvious from the way they looked and smiled one at another.

Amelie was a girl we used to know back when we were around 15. She was on a school trip in the city we lived in then. We wanted to steal some money so we could afford lunch so we pretended to read the future. While doing so, Matteo noticed her. She was the only one who didn't want to know her future. We still don't know if it was because she knew we were faking it or because she already knew she wouldn't have one.

One night we saw her running while crying with blood coming down her nose. She kept looking back like something was chasing her. She looked exhausted, probably running for a very long time. When she saw us — I don't know what made her trust us — she immediately hid behind us while whispering: 'please, help me. they are hurting me.' We made sure nobody saw the four of us and took her to our place.

Our place was a dumpster at the time. It was clean, it had a mattress and a large cardboard box as a table where we put our staff. Amelia hadn't said anything about it, just sat at the end of the bed, zooming out. 'Do you need something?' Matteo asked. She just shook her head.
