evangeline cromwell
"I heard that right last night, right?" Henry asked when he could finally get me alone.
Thanks to my friends who said that I was so sick I couldn't even leave the room, I called Henry over to my hotel room. Of course, I had to fake it. The girls put makeup on me to make me look sick, we put the thermometer next to the light bulb for about five minutes and I had to cough every five seconds.
When our principal came over, she wanted to call my parents but we - mostly Luna - convinced her that we shouldn't worry Ma and Dad with a light fever. Then she wanted to call the ambulance but Luna, once again, convinced her it was not worth calling the ambulance because there were cases much worse.
After what felt like hours, Mrs. Clark finally let me stay at the hotel and I coughed before saying thank you.
They all gave me a don't do something I wouldn't do look and Luna also tried winking, again. I asked them to also make sure Andrew wouldn't do something stupid and Victoria said that they were already on it.
And now I was finally sitting with Henry in my hotel room, on my bunk bed.
"Yeah, you heard it correctly. I love you, Henry." At that moment, he smiled — a smile so bright and genuine that made my heart smile. His lips parted, letting me see his gummy smile that I'm so used to. My own heart is used with him.
"You," he points towards me. "Love," he fingers form a heart. "Me?" He points a finger towards himself.
"Yes, Henry, I love you." I make the same gestures with my hands as him.
He laughs, a sound that breaks every single bad thing in me. I felt like a kid again, when the colours felt lighter, and the breeze on my skin was like a tickle from the universe, back when I thought that the whole world belonged to me. Back when my sister was alive.
"Evangeline Cromwell loves me." Henry begins to sing while kissing my cheeks, my nose, every single place on my face, except for my lips. "Evangeline-" Kiss on my left cheek. "Cromwell-" kiss on my right cheek. "Loves-" kiss on my forehead. "Me!" Kiss on my nose.
I giggle, trying to hide my face away from him, but his right-hand cups my face, making it impossible to move. "You're tickling me!" I managed to say between my laughs but that didn't make him stop kissing me further.
"You love me." Henry began singing again as he put a hand on my waist and in a second, I was on top of him, my face on his chest.
"Why are you so happy?"
"Because you love me!" He cups my face and makes me make that fish face again. "You, the most caring person I know cares and loves me, a killer."
"Hey, don't bad mouth yourself, alright?" I also cup his face, making him do the same face as me. "I only know Henry, don't know no Miro."
