"Yes Dad, I will call you if I need anything." I was already tired of saying this sentence over and over again.
"If he dares to hurt you—"
"I can assure you, Mr. Cromwell, I won't hurt your daughter." Henry cuts my father off.
Dad already knows that Henry and his friends took care of his daughter but he still doesn't trust him. It annoys me the fact that Dad will only look at him and see a killer. Not like a human being, with a past and feelings, not like a person who makes me happy, not like the one who was ready to die for him.
In his eyes, Henry will remain Miro Blakely, the serial killer.
"Harvey, she'll be fine. Don't worry." Mom intervened between the two of them before things got out of hand. I thanked her with a smile.
"We'll see." The old man glanced at the one next to me. "Be safe and don't drink."
I rolled my eyes. "Alright, Dad. See you in a week!"
My parents followed out until we got into the car. Dad offered to put my bag in the trunk even though Henry insisted on doing it himself. "Call me whenever you have time, sweetie."
"Of course, ma! I'll call you as soon as I get there." I couldn't help but smile at my mom. She's always been on my side, despite my dad or anyone else. She always trusted me, something not even Dad didn't do.
I waved at them until I couldn't see their silhouettes, turning my attention to the road in front of me after that. "I hate this stupid mask." He angrily took it off and threw it somewhere in the car.
"I told you not to come and get me." I shrugged. We had a whole fight about it. I kept telling him it's dangerous if he keeps coming back to Brookside but he insisted on coming and getting me.
"And I told you I don't care." He said. "I won't let you go alone anymore from now on. Better buckle up."
The thought of him following me around made me smile. I don't mind having him around every day of my life. "Wait, did you know what I discovered?"
"What?" Henry stopped the car at the red light and turned his head towards me.
"Look." I hit my knee with my fist and without me doing anything, it moved. "Isn't that cool?"
"That's called the patellar reflex, river." His finger tapped the steering wheel as he smiled at me.
"Oh," You could hear the disappointment in my voice. "I thought I discovered something. I was going to call it River's fist."
"Wait, sorry. This is called River's Fist. Silly me."
The light turned green and he started driving.
