Chapter 15: Declining Possibilities

[Y/n's PoV]

The revelation of the possibility of my past-self having a love interest took me by surprise as if I don't know how to respond to it. My cheeks started to slightly blush after hearing Lumine's theory because that is one thing that I never even thought about it at all.

"Love int— love interest huh?"

When I thought about it, the idea of dating someone didn't really enter my mind. Yet, for some weird unknown reason, it really struck me upon hearing Lumine's explanation.

I then crossed my arms.

"Well, it could be... possible, yet us yaksha are a dangerous being— I couldn't even place myself in some sort of relationship due to my karma."

Lumine nodded,"...You've have made your point there. Being a yaksha does have its difficulties, to begin with..."

The idea of thinking about a past I, who was already involved in a relationship seemed quite strange to me, considering the kind of personality my past self has.

"But even so— there are still people who could resist the danger that your karma would bring like us and those who wields a Vision." Lumine exclaimed.

"...."

The thought of possibly being in a romantic relationship in the past was quite intriguing to me especially the idea of knowing who this person my past self had a crush over. It was a mystery to solve and one that I'll figure out soon.

Lumine seems to have her suspicions about my love interest, considering the way that I'm not giving any further answers at all, which gave her the hint that she could be correct about it all.

"I see that I may have made the assumption correct, right?" Lumine asked me as she raises an eyebrow, awaiting for my answer.

"Well, even if I was infatuated with someone back from my past, that still wouldn't explain things since if considering that my love interest was a mortal, humans' lifespan is far shorter than mine and it's already been five hundred years— that person could've been dead by now." I reason out with her.

"But Zhongli wouldn't task you here to go for Fontaine if the person you were looking for was already gone." Paimon debated.

The two of them were correct on their assumptions regarding my possible past-self having a love interest in the past and that person could have already passed away long ago.

"This is... a rather saddening reality if I were to be completely honest with you both."

I took a sigh of defeat after hearing my only chance to find the truth to this mystery was slim as of the present moment. Yet, I didn't completely lost hope because it was true just what Paimon had said— Morax wouldn't have tasked me to come here in Fontaine if that person was already gone.

"Don't be sad, Y/n, think of it this way— if you're love interest is also a being like you who have a much longer lifespan, then that person is most likely alive right now."

Lumine's words struck me like lightning and it made me realized that it could be the very possible truth. If my past-self's love interest was also someone who has a much longer lifespan just like me, then that person might still be alive and kicking up until the present moment.

"You may have a point."

"Yeah! Who knows? It could be Neuvillette— Fontaine's chief justice, oh! Or it could be Furina, the former Hydro Archon. Although none of this individuals seems to be interested in what you call a relationship since Neuvillette is busy all the time and Furina is... Well, let's just say that she has a unique personality from the past as an Archon." Paimon explained.
