Chapter 16: Ambience

[Y/n's PoV]

Me and the two of them were in a rather good mood after coming up with the plan on going to Neuvillette tomorrow since the trail is kinda getting hot. But until then, I shall continue helping them doing tasks in Poisson and it's best to keep my mind calm and chill to avoid having any of the dreadful memories coming back from the past.

Lumine and Paimon chatted freely, while I walk alongside them in silence, letting the two of them continue on with each other.

The atmosphere felt a little tense with the mystery on the loose and no further leads or progress on finding any clues. But even still, I was still happy to join them in completing any tasks today with Neuvillette to be the next target for investigation later on tomorrow.

"We're here! Y/n, you should come and join us as we are going to visit one of our friends here in Fontaine who is the President of the Spina di Rosula, Navia!"

Visit? I thought it was a task that they'll be doing here... *Sigh* nevermind.

"Is your friend... friendly?" I asked a genuine question to them about whether their friend is friendly or not.

I've seen how Lumine and Paimon has been so far as very friendly and cheerful people, but I was wondering if their friend that they wanted me to see might be the complete opposite of them. Lumine was quick to answer me back though.

"Oh, Navia's a very friendly type! She loves having guests around here in Poisson, it's her happy space and it's a rather lovely place as well."

"Then I think I'll pass." I said.

Lumine then tilted her head and had a sad expression on her face when I said those words.

"Is there a reason why you don't want to meet Navia? I mean, since we're going there already... Might as well?"

I shook my head.

"I could sense many people to where you are going, it's dangerous for me to be there. I'll just find a nice resting place and wait for you here."

Lumine was puzzled by this answer that I gave even though it was a little bit understandable considering the whole concept about the karmic dept that haunts and curses me from the past.

"It's alright, we understand that. We wouldn't want you to be feeling uncomfortable or anything of that sort. But you'll be fine just waiting here, right?"

I answered only with a short nod.

"...Be careful on waiting here— oh, and don't move from that spot so it's easier for us to find you later." Paimon said.

"...Of course, you have my word."

"Alright then." Lumine replied as they both waved to me and headed inside the entrance they were going to in Poisson to meet their friend Navia.

After finding my spot— away from to where they had departed, I plop myself on the grass to give myself a small break while thinking about the whole mystery for myself. Who could that person be that is mentioned in the memories, but not appearing in any of my memories? It was truly a mystery that I have to unravel.

I gave my thoughts some more time to come up with more theories and scenarios that could help me figure out this mystery. But nothing seems to come to mind yet and I start to feel rather impatient with thinking of any leads to find the remaining answers.

..?!

Then, I suddenly felt pain that made me clutched my chest in agony, realizing that the karmic debt was slowly creeping up towards my mind and body, trying to take control over my consciousness and actions. Yet, I didn't give up on myself as I kept resisting its effect, not letting it take control of over me.
