[Furina's PoV]
While I was readying myself to catch up some sleep since I was busy finishing some novels last night, I was suddenly invited by Neuvillette at the Palais Memornia to have an important manner be discussed with me.
"...You're telling me to what now?"
I was in disbelief when I heard what Neuvilette just requested me to do for him. I'm aware of the fact that Neuvilette always has something important for me to solve, but I never expected that this matter would be a trial with such high stakes like this one.
"I'm simply asking for your cooperation on this matter to be the attorney of an old friend of mine who was proven guilty earlier by a man who claims he is a witness and will be taking his name as his own attorney." Neuvillette explained.
This made me scoffed as I looked at him.
"First and foremost, I don't like others telling me what to do. Second, what is this case all about exactly? Why does your 'friend' need my help? You are going to need to provide way more details so I can evaluate the matter, and it's not like Y/n is the person I'm defending that I need to put all my efforts in."
"Third, I'm no longer acting as an Archon— so if things doesn't go exactly as planned, I could no longer try to make some demands on the other party."
"Fourth, I have no idea of who your friend is and I'm not fond of being someone's tool to act on their behalf without even knowing why I'm helping or to who I'm helping."
"Lastly, where are all the evidence I needed to prove that person's innocence? This is the most important key in defending someone in the court and if you don't have any of that— I, too, would be drag along with this and ruin the reputation that I've work so hard as an ordinary person. So do you not find it a bit strange that you're inviting me here, in the middle of the night for this matter?"
Neuvillette sighs in response from my resistance.
"Yes, I'm aware of all of that, though this is merely an important request of mine that only you, Furina, could handle such matter and no else."
"As for the evidence, I left that task to the Traveler since she's also helping with this case."
"Furina, please trust me on this matter, and do take my word that this trial will be one of your divine revelations that you've been seeking from the past. Now, do you agree to my request?"
"...."
I remained still for a moment then sighed as well. I was a former Archon that now is living as an ordinary person in Fontaine; not wanting to make a lot of enemies nor create unnecessary drama.
However, I was indeed curious of the reason why Neuvillette's insisting me to defend the one who's in trial with the stakes being so high and so much to take a risk on. There's definitely more to it than meets the eye.
"*sigh*...Alright, fine. I'll help you with this trial but keep in mind the conditions that I've mentioned. If any of them are being broken, then I will withdraw immediately, is that understood?"
Neuvillette immediately nodded his head, making me more suspicious.
"Yes, I'm very well aware of them, I'll do everything in agreement to the things that you have requested. I do, however, have to warn you that there's quite a lot to handle regarding on this matter, so it's not like this will be an easy task for you, but I promise you that after the trial gives its final verdict, I will provide you the information that you ought to seek regarding this case."
Judging from his expression, perhaps Neuvilette had expected that I would put some conditions but he didn't expect to have it this much. Hmph, nothing comes for free, you know?
However, he somehow gave me a small smile of approval as if he had succeeded in having me to agree to help him with this matter.
Just what is going on exactly..?
I sighed before crossing my arms.
"I guess this is one of those matters where I'll have to wait until things begin to happen..?"
Neuvillette only nodded his head and was very relieved as well. If what he said was true, then perhaps I really am the only person that could handle this matter in the right and peaceful way to solve everything to its best possible outcomes.
Although I couldn't help but feel a little anxious about the trial. I do wonder who this person that Neuvillette was willing to defend so much. And the fact that it was someone who he knew so well made it all the more complicated for me.
However, whether he was exaggerating or not a minute ago, this case may very well be the key to solving one of my own divine revelation that I greatly seeks.
