Chapter 25: Spectacle

[Furina's PoV]

Even when it's raining, Clorinde's firm voice managed to reached us at the distance hence all of our attention directly went to her.

"Furina! Monsieur Neuvillette is requesting for your presence now at the Vasari Passage."

I immediately felt surprised at hearing this news as I wasn't expecting to be called away by Neuvillette for now since I was still talking to the Traveler and her companion about my current predicament with Y/n.

"What does Neuvillette needs me for?" I asked, clearly confused by what's happening.

"We got a critical situation at hand— the one you'd defended at the Opera Epiclese, seems to be emitting a powerful and dangerous aura from within her that it's causing the mekas' to malfunctioned and started attacking the citizens. Before it led to this outcome, she deliberately requested the people to stay away from her as far as possible." Clorinde explained.

"Y/n..." I whispered, realizing that it's her.

My heart was filled with more fear when I heard this news. So that means the mysterious aura Y/n was emitting based on Clorinde's explanation came from her karma. And for Neuvillette requesting for my presence means it really was that bad for it to cause such massive amounts of damage to the people and to the mekas.

"...Where is Neuvillette? I have to head over there now..." I replied, still trembling but I didn't want to show my fear of such devastating news as I decided to stand up straight and get to the Vasari Passage as soon as possible.

"We'll come too!" Paimon said from which Lumine also nodded.

I felt a sigh of relief when they offered to come with me to the Vasari Passage. I quickly agreed as I didn't want to be alone at the moment as the feeling of loneliness was already beginning to get inside my head.

I followed Clorinde with Paimon and Lumine by my side until we all soon reach the Vasari Passage where I find Neuvillette there, waiting for my arrival.

"Neuvillette, where is Y/n?" I asked with a worried look.

Neuvillette had a very troubled face which only caused me to be even more worried about the situation of Y/n.

"I am sorry to say this... but Yingxue seems to be the one who's causing all this incident. She is the source of the energy which is making the meka gardes malfunction and attacks anyone who comes near to her. Perhaps the karma is trying to corrupt her mind once more."

Neuvillette continued to address me while looking at me with a serious face.

"Her aura has reached an extremely unstable level. The amount of energy emitting from her is very concerning and is a dangerous as well... She is losing herself due to her karma and it's going to cause her to have a mental breakdown if we don't do something to stop the karma. What's worse, the current situation may be even more dangerous if she loses control."

No, Y/n...

I was too shocked to utter a single word while Neuvillette faces Clorinde, Lumine and Paimon.

"Clorinde, go and help the others fending off the mekas'. As for you two, you are most likely immune to Y/n's karma, yes? Perhaps I could trouble you a bit to go and deal with the situation before it gets worse."

The three of them immediately nodded, leaving me with Neuvillette.

I was left feeling completely fearful and lost when I saw them go ahead to help with the mekas while I stayed with Neuvillette alone. The rainy weather only caused me to feel even more fearful and tried to control myself with how scared I was feeling.

"She'll be fine, Furina..."

"...."

As Neuvillette tried comforting me with this more serious matter, it only worsened my fear as I felt like the atmosphere was getting even darker to the point where I could feel a chill in my spine.

"Neuvillette, please don't let them hurt Y/n..." I pleaded.

"I will try, Furina. But with the current state Y/n is in and her aura still increasing at rapid pace, it will be extremely difficult to approach her without getting hurt by the negative energy. I can only hope her aura will not be strong enough to corrupt you as well, otherwise..."

Neuvillete couldn't finish his last words as he seemed to have a hard time telling exactly what may happen as I could feel my heart beating faster from the thought that I was also in danger from this.

Then, I felt it. The aura enveloping the city as Y/n's karma took over her consciousness and body just like the past.

This was it. My worst nightmare was finally coming to life as my heart was filled with pure despair as I felt the aura surrounding the entire city. My body froze up with fear which made my movement difficult.

As we watched from a distance, I saw Navia, Clorinde, Chevreuse, and the others fending off the mekas' while the sight of Y/n being in such a frenzy state is causing damage to everything around her, and the fact that Lumine was struggling to handle her caused my heart to fill with even more fear for Y/n.

The entire situation was a complete disaster and it seems like nothing could be done to help them stop Y/n until I realized something and was about to run off but as if Neuvillette knows what I was thinking, he immediately hold me in place by taking my wrist.

I was surprised to feel Neuvillette holding my wrist tightly, keeping me from running away. So I looked at him in a somewhat irritated and angered manner.

"What are you doing?! Let go of my hand! I have to go and help Y/n!"

I tried freeing myself, but Neuvillette's gripped remains firm.

"Furina, you're not experienced both in close and distant combat, Y/n could–"

"I said let me go! I don't care if I'm not experienced or not, I have to do this and you can't stop me! I have to convince her that she can trust me since I made a promise to her in the past!"

I tried to break free from Neuvillette's grip again as he could now tell that I wasn't listening to him but rather to my emotions.

"Furina, that is no longer Yingxue–"

"No, you don't understand— no one understands her better than I do. Please, just let me save her before it's too late; I don't wanna lose her... Not again..."

My voice was filled with deep tears as a result of the guilt I held in my heart. I suddenly looked at Neuvillette with a pleading look as I begged him to let me go so I could run and save her.

Neuvillette then gave me a hesitant look before he sighs and lets go of my wrist as I dashed to where Lumine and Y/n was fighting.

I hurried to take my stance in front of Y/n. My heart was filled with strong emotion as I was now facing Y/n who was corrupted by her karmic dept. I was determined to prove that I understand her better than anyone else, and to keep a promise I made to Y/n in the past.
