There's too much blood in my caffeine system

"There's too much blood in my caffeine system", goes one joke, and in the case of an ex-caffeine addict like me, it just might be true.

I'm still addicted to caffeine, which is why, like my character Inaya Moin in my Wattpad story "A Whisper of Peace" just HAS to have coffee in the pre-dawn meal before fasting begins, I HAVE to have it, too. (It's probably the reason I gave her that characteristic.) Otherwise I have a headache, which is not fun. I endured headaches and popped painkillers for two weeks in my initial attempt at breaking out of my caffeine addiction cold turkey: it worked, but the habit was still there. Like my friend Shuffy's mother says, "Don't you get bored if you don't drink tea?", I found myself craving tea not because of a withdrawal headache, but out of habit. Add Mama's "why are you snacking? Drink tea instead" to the mix and there comes my caffeine addiction back in the door, this time with extra luggage because it plans to stay for a considerable amount of time.

That means coffee before the fast, tea after the fast, and a "floating in a caffeine-deprived haze" phase that sets in during the last hour of the fast. Otherwise my fasts go pretty well, thanks and praise to Allah!

Are you a tea/coffee addict? What effect does caffeine have on you? It does have an effect on my mornings, as I'll discuss in the next chapter.
