Getting back into book reading

When I became more forgiving about the type of books I allowed myself to read, I went back to fantasy, young adult and novels in general. Also, I got a library card. These two things opened up a world of books to me. Before, I was collecting serious non-fiction books and not really making much progress with them. Then I remembered a friend of mine telling me about book vloggers on Youtube, who generally call their little corner of YouTube "booktube". Booktube is gorgeous and the comment section is actually sane, which is saying a lot when it comes to YouTube. Anyway, I watched a booktube video in which the vlogger said that if you're in a reading slump, you're probably not selecting the right books to read. That flicked on a lightbulb in my mind, and I started looking up novels to read. A combination of Booktube and Goodreads got me back on track. Reading slump over. Return to life as a bookworm.

The lovely thing about book reading is that it is a very flexible and portable pastime. Flexible because you can read a page at a time or the whole book in one go, depending on how you feel and how much time and focus you have. It also depends on the book. The thing with being a grownup is that I no longer have the ability to finish a book in one day by reading it all day long. I used to do this until before college. Then college happened and books retreated into the background of my life (not counting textbooks, obviously). Now I have the ability to put down a book in the middle of a climactic scene and go do whatever needs to be done. Sometimes I even return to the book days later. It depends on a lot of factors. I still get hooked on books, though. There's no feeling like getting lost in a good book, and I'm glad I can still experience that.

So, which book did you enjoy reading this year? Any books on the list to read next?
