The homemade lentils equal to the homemade chicken

A little ramble of mine:
We have a saying in Urdu: "The homemade lentils are equal to the homemade chicken." (Chicken is considered high-status food, lentils considered common food.) The saying means that the things you own appear similar in value whereas something external appears more in value. Anyway what I wanted to say was that I had a sore throat, my mother called up my grandma (who's a doctor but in another city) and my grandma told me what to do. I was convinced it was something more, so we shelled out PKR 2000 (around $20) to see a doctor in person, who said more or less the same thing.
My mother quoted the saying I mentioned above. I simply said that I preferred to have my throat checked in person.
What's your little ramble for today?
