I promised that I would tackle something productive in this chapter, and rest assured, I will deliver. I am going to share a secret with you: the secret of charming people. The easiest way to charm people is to charm their taste buds. My master work in this arena is my pan of homemade brownies.

Dear reader, I kid you not, I shall share my brownies recipe with you without any further ado. (Well, it's not mine—originally I used a Better Homes and Gardens recipe, but then I tried this one from Hillbilly Housewife instead).

Ingredients

1 cup melted butter (2 sticks) 2 cups sugar 4 medium eggs ½ teaspoon salt ½ cup unsweetened cocoa 1 teaspoon vanilla 1-1/4 cups flour

Instructions

So, first melt your butter (I do it in the microwave). Next get out a large bowl and combine the butter and sugar with a spoon or whisk. Add all four eggs, and beat the mixture until it is sort of fluffy and emulsified. Add the salt, cocoa, and vanilla. Stir up really well. Add the flour. Stir again until the mixture is thick and chocolaty. Turn the batter into a well oiled 9 by 13-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool before serving. Cut into 32 small squares.

You can find the original page featuring this recipe here (I substituted butter for margarine):

How's that for something practical?

For those with less of a bent towards baking, I have more practical summer vacation tips for you, personally gathered from my sunlit days:

Sleep well. No website or text conversation is worth sacrificing shuteye for. When you're bored, don't pick your face, or any of your skin for that matter. Spots heal well when not disturbed. Do a summer project. Better yet, make it a Summer Project, or The Summer Project, or "THE SUMMER PROJECT". Emphasize as much as you like in print, but put all your passion into it in reality. For a homebody like me, my summer project is reading books, my Summer Project is writing on Wattpad, The Summer Project is reading Islamic nonfiction, and "THE SUMMER PROJECT" is listening to, and making notes of, explanation of the Quran. Oh, and learning how to cook, finally vacuuming the apartment, flying to Neverland, and unlearning my bad habits. Hey, a girl can dream.

What's your summer dream scheme? More about dreams in the next chapter.
