Rehaan Knows...

Rehaan was aware of the reason behind all these happenings. He knew what the culprits were after.

But he has forgotten everything.

Rehaan gulped seeing my death glare. "I don't know what this is about," he said nervously. "I seriously don't."

"You don't know now, but you did back then. However, instead of informing me about it, you decided to fire me."

"We don't know if this was at the time of me firing you or the day after when I got hit," Rehaan said defensively.

While at the same time, Ananya Di huffed at me, "Yet you decided to trust his words and ignore my calls. He is the untrustworthy one, not me." She shouted at last.

I held my ears, mouthing an apology. I blinked my eyes and kept making a puppy face, until she gave up.

She snorted at my silliness, but her smile at last gave her away.

"You smiled, you smiled, okay? Now you can't go back to frowning," I chirped, before entwining our elbows.

We both then turned towards Rehaan, who stood there looking uncomfortable.

"What do you have to say for yourself?" Ananya Di asked, narrowing her eyes at him.

"Sorry?" He answered in a sheepish tone, scratching the back of his head, before wincing as he mistakenly touched his wound.

"Forget it." I waved off my hand, and gestured to him to go back to his seat. "We will get nothing by focusing on this when you don't even remember anything. Let's focus on this," I said, waving the documents.

"I think you should just follow his words for now," Ananya Di said, making my blood boil.

"So I should just forget my name and leave with this new identity, and for something I don't even know why? Why should I take this injustice quietly? I want to fight back."

"How?" She questioned, looking at me as if I had lost it. "You have no resources. You don't even have money for your next meal, and you want to fight these powerful people. Wake up Muskaan! This isn't some movie, where the main protagonist wins despite all odds. You will get crushed."

"But—" I tried to protest, but it was of no use.

"It's better than getting killed. Look where defiance got him," she said, pointing towards Rehaan's injury. "Let's wait! At least until Rehaan gets his memories back and we find out what actually is going on. We shouldn't dive into this scary pool head on, while not even knowing what it is filled up with."

Rehaan frowned, not liking the fact that she used his injury as an example. He was about to retort when the doorbell rang, making all of us jump at the suddenness.

"It must be the doctor," I said, amused by the timing.

Talk about an injury and the doctor shows up.

"Sure?" Rehaan asked raising his eyebrows, hinting towards the time Ananya Di came instead.

I stuck my tongue at him, not bothering to answer him. Pushing past his shoulder, I moved to open the door.

"Don't, I will go," he said, pushing me towards the couch gently.

"What the—"

"Just in case it's not the doctor," he simply explained, before going to open the door himself.

"Like you are strong enough to face those thugs yourself," I muttered under my breath, before stubbornly following behind.

Two were better than one.

It was the doctor who came.

Alas! We didn't get to show our fighting skills.

I snorted at my own stupid joke, before going towards the kitchen to get a glass of water for the doctor.

Knowing his history of getting scared, I stood by Rehaan's side as the doctor checked and re-bandaged his wounds.

"Don't you have to stitch it again? The stitches seemed like they got pulled out," I asked.

The doctor chuckled a bit, before answering, "You wouldn't have been able to patch him up if there was a need for me to stitch him again. His wound is healing, so they had to come off eventually. That's the reason they fell off so easily in the first place."

"Then the blood?" I asked, still scared for his health.

"Because he pulled them off harshly. Don't worry, everything's fine now. I have checked his wound for infection too. He is clear." The doctor patted Rehaan's shoulder, before standing up to leave.

Rehaan went after him to see him off and pay, while I moved back to Ananya Di.

"Should we leave after I give him medicines?" I asked her.

"We?"

"Well you said, it's safer now, so I thought I would..."

"Goons came to the house twice for you. Do you really think they will let you in again?"

"Di..."

"Don't look at me like that. I am not the one kicking you out."

"That's the reason you brought my entireluggage," I said, finally understanding why she brought my clothes even though it was safer now.

"Where will I go?" I asked in a quiet tone. "I don't even have money to rent a place somewhere else." I closed my eyes, trying to stop the tears from falling.

"Just stay here," she sighed. "Even though I don't like him at the moment, he is the safest bet for you."

"He is my safest bet but why would he let me stay now?" I scoffed. "He has no reason to do so. It's not unsafe anymore; At least for the time being. I have continuously lied to him and played with his feelings. With what audacity should I ask him to let me stay here?"

I sat down on the floor, feeling devastated. I didn't have a home, and wouldn't even have a job as a housekeeper since it was safe now. I didn't have anything to my name now.

Who am I kidding? I don't even have my name now.

What a life I was living!
