I walk in, and in addition to the artists seated around the conference table, I see board members, the PR Rep (Melinda), the event coordinator (David), and the image consultant (Daniel). First things first, introductions. The atmosphere is incredible—everyone is so nice and down to earth. Even though I knew they were Christian artists, you never know what to expect. Anyway, I am asked to share my story and my vision. Then we delve into all the legal mumbo-jumbo, signing contracts, and going over the logistics of the event such as location, dates, times, etc.
My vision for the event includes a runway, exhibit space, a stage for performances, an auction space, and a lounge for the after-party. The date: December 1st. The location: The Greatness Center on Desbrosses St. This venue offers breathtaking views of Manhattan with over thirty thousand square feet of open space and a versatile, minimalistic design that can be transformed into the venue of my dreams with ease.
Most of the event details will be handled by the event coordinator based on my designs and vision. Melinda, the PR Rep, has already begun sending out press releases and scheduling interviews with local radio stations and national news and entertainment shows filmed in New York. This press tour would fill my schedule for the rest of the week.
After the meeting, I was whisked off for a makeover with my new glam squad: Daniel and his team. Callalily, Daniel's top stylist, handled my skin treatments, makeup, and my wig. She installed Tamela Mann-worthy extensions. I stayed true to the pinup hairstyle that I was known for, but Callalily polished the look and made it fabulous. My new wardrobe consisted of jeans, wife beaters, designer pumps, vintage jackets, amazing custom jewelry, and accessories. Last but not least, the emcee of teeth, Dr. Dazzle, made my pearly whites white again!
I was officially ready! My homegirl, the PR Rep Melinda, informed me that one of the artists from the event's lineup would be joining me for the interviews this week. She couldn't tell me who just yet (because she was awaiting confirmation). Maybe Elle Betty or Classix, since they are local. BlackRoots, DAT, and NOLO were on their way back to L.A., so I knew it couldn't be one of them. I am praying for Elle Betty, though. I feel like she can teach me so much.
