3:23 AM: April 9, 2023: On The Hoenn Island

Inside Charlie's bedroom, you’ll find two beds, one slightly smaller than the other. In the slightly bigger bed, you’ll find fifteen-year-old Charlie sleeping soundly.

In the slightly smaller bed, on the other end of the room, you’ll find a slightly different story. Gardevoir is lying awake and getting those 3 A.M. thoughts that everybody is prone to getting.

In the twelve days since she scared away Dan and Parsons from ever messing with Charlie again, she has been feeling useless.

Charlie and Gardevoir had made a deal, that when Charlie has nothing to sell, they're doing Pokemon battles for money. They also agreed that she would not use her size change abilities in battle, just to keep it fair.

Gardevoir had lost the last four battles, however. And Charlie only has 250 Pokedollars left. (Which is only about 25 cents!)

She began to unconsciously change size and in just a few seconds, she was bumping the nine-foot ceiling with her head.

“Ow.” Gardevoir mumbled.

At that moment Charlie jerked awake. Charlie had always been a light sleeper, so when the loud ‘BUMP!’ happened, he was jerked from sleep.

Charlie sat up quickly, but hazily in bed. He was so hazy that it took him a few seconds to realize that Gardevoir was standing up and was nine feet tall.

“Gardevoir, what’s wrong?” Charlie asked.

“I’m worried, and I’m getting anxiety.” Gardevoir answered.

“Why, there’s nothing you’ve done. So unless it's about me or someone else, I think you need to not be worried about anything. But if you’re having trouble with that, I’m here to help you.’ Charlie said.

“But I do have something to worry about, and it is about me!” Gardevoir said.

Gardevoir continued. “I’ve lost the last four battles when we desperately needed money. That means that I lost the money that you needed!”

“Golly, Gardevoir! It’s not your fault! If anything it’s my fault that I keep picking trainers with better Pokemon. We don’t battle much so I sometimes don’t know what moves to tell you!” Charlie said.

“How do I know you aren’t saying that because I’m nine feet tall?” Gardevoir asked.

“Well, I know it’s almost half past three in the morning, and both of our judgments have got to be poor, but I’m not Dan or Parsons, I would say the same thing whether you were ninety feet tall or nine inches tall,” Charlie said.

“I’m sorry. It’s just that, you’re right, it’s 3:23 in the morning, I haven’t slept, and my judgment’s poor, but I just feel like everything is my fault. And despite what you’re saying, I’m still very worried and anxious about it, I can’t seem to stop thinking about it.” Gardevoir said.

Gardevoir’s extreme worry and anxiety caused her to unconsciously grow again.

As she had to stoop over, she finally was able to stop, however, she was now fifteen feet tall.

“Wait, wait, wait, why are you growing?” Charlie asked.

“I don’t know! It’s not me doing it!” Gardevoir said.

“Oh boy. The things that happen at three in the morning. Um, okay. I’m not sure what to do. Do you think you can squeeze your way downstairs and outside? I’ll come with you.” Charlie said.

They made their way downstairs and outside without trouble, but as soon as Gardevoir was outside, she said, “You don’t have to stay out here with me. Gardevoir is disappointed in herself for growing like this, even though I can’t even help it right now! I’m just so worried that I’m going to cause you to go bankrupt, and then you’ll have to sell the house to get money for food and I just can’t stop thinking about it!”

“Look, try your best to calm down, I think that’s what’s causing you to grow uncontrollably! Look, you’re growing again!” Charlie said.

Charlie was indeed right on both accounts. Her extreme worry and anxiety were indeed causing her to grow like this, and she was indeed growing again.

“Oh no, I don’t wanna be thirty feet tall right now, I just wanna be my normal height and in bed sleeping!” Gardevoir exclaimed.

“Here, listen, take deep breaths, hold my hands as best you can if you need to. I’m here to help.” Charlie said.

Gardevoir took Charlie’s hand, rather Charlie grabbed a couple of her fingers, and she began taking deep breaths, letting the worrying thoughts bleed out of her.

As she did she began to return to her normal size, and within ten seconds, she was her normal five-foot self.

“Let’s go to sleep.” Gardevoir said.

Charlie and Gardevoir walked inside, and back to their bedroom.

“See you in the morning.” Gardevoir said.

“Technically, it is morning, so I guess I’ll see you later today,” Charlie said with a grin on his face.

“Whatever.” Gardevoir said, rolling her eyes, also with a grin on her face.
