Not Quite Three Hours Later: 5:12 PM: June 6, 2023: On Kanto Island

“Hey Gardevoir, are you ready to go see ‘Big Money Wheel’?” Charlie asked

“Yeah, let’s go!” Gardevoir answered.

So off they went towards NGS Studios. It was about quarter till six when they got to the front desk at NGS Studios. Funnily enough, it was the same secretary that sold Charlie the tickets the night before.

“Oh hello again! I see you’ve brought your Gardevoir with you. I assume that’s who the second ticket is for, right?” the secretary said.

“Yes indeed. Do I hand my tickets to you and then you lead us to the studio?” Charlie asked

“Almost, I give them back to you after I use my hole puncher on them. Then I’ll lead you to the studio where you will get another ticket with a random number on it. Your Gardevoir won’t though.” the secretary explained

“Why don’t I get one of those?” Gardevoir asked, tilting her head curiously to the side.

“Those special numbered tickets are sort of like raffle tickets. If one of the contestants doesn’t show up for some reason, we do a random drawing and if your number is called, you play in the place of the missing person. Since only humans are allowed to be a contestant on the show, you don’t get one.” the secretary explained

“Oh. Thanks for explaining it to me!” Gardevoir said

“You’re welcome!” the secretary said

So the secretary punched their tickets and led them down the hall where they walked into the ‘Big Money’ studio. An attendant gave Charlie a white ticket with a red number on it. Then they sat down and waited for filming to begin.

“What number did you get on your special ticket?” Gardevoir asked

“I got number 642,” Charlie answered.

On stage, they could see a commotion going on. Gardevoir strained her ears to try to find out what could be going on.

“Jack didn’t show!” someone on stage said to another person on stage.

“I guess it’s time to use our raffle system.” the other said.

“Okay, let me go to the box.” the first one said.

“Hello, I am the producer of the show, Martin Flugel, and it appears a contestant didn’t show. So if we call your number, you get to play in that contestant’s place!” the second person said to the audience.

“Oh my! What was your number again?” Gardevoir asked Charlie

“Number 642,” Charlie answered

“Ok, sorry this isn’t a little more sophisticated, but I am going to draw a number from this plastic container and if you have that number on your special ticket, then you play in the show. You have five minutes to claim your number or we will draw another number.” Martin Flugel explained

With that, Martin drew a number from the container.

“Number 543! You have five minutes to give me your special ticket. I will stay right here. Your time starts now!” Martin said

“Man, I kinda wish they called your number.” Gardevoir said

“It’s fine, our goal here was to watch a live taping, so if my number isn’t called, it’s not a big deal,” Charlie said

“Four minutes and thirty seconds to claim your ticket, Number 543!” Martin called from the stage.

“I’m surprised the person with ticket number 543 hasn’t claimed his or her ticket yet.” Gardevoir said

“Me too,” Charlie said

“Four minutes for Number 543 to claim their ticket!” Martin said

“They may have to redraw!” Gardevoir said

“Relax, Gardevoir. The person with 543 probably is using the restroom and is probably on their way back to the studio now.” Charlie said

“Number 543! You have three minutes and ten seconds to claim your ticket!” Martin yelled from the stage.

“Somebody’s not paying attention, he called 543 almost two minutes ago!” Gardevoir said.

“So like your attention span to anything other than one of your favorite shows when it’s on?” Charlie asked with a grin on his face.

“Charlie!” Gardevoir said

Charlie started laughing.

Right, when he finished laughing Martin yelled from the stage,

“Number 543, you have two minutes and twenty seconds to claim your ticket!”

“They may have to draw another number!” Gardevoir said.

“Including me and Mr. 543, there are 726 people in this studio. This means I would have a 1/725 chance. I don’t think my number will get drawn.” Charlie said

“One minute and forty-five seconds, number 543!” Martin exclaimed.

“Well, this is cool to see, I mean this is the first time this has ever happened and we get to witness it live.” Gardevoir said

“This is the first time?” Charlie asked

“Yeah, they said that earlier. You must not have been paying attention.” Gardevoir said

“I guess not,” Charlie said

“Fifty-five seconds, Number 543!” Martin exclaimed from the stage.

“Oh my goodness, it’s going to be a redraw!” Gardevoir said

“It does appear to look that way,” Charlie said

“Thirty-five seconds for ticket 543 to redeem their ticket and play on the show!” Martin yelled from the stage.

“Yep, they have to redraw!” Gardevoir exclaimed

“That or someone is pushing their luck with the timer,” Charlie said

“Or the person with 543 just doesn’t wanna play.” Gardevoir said.

“Ten seconds, ticket 543!” Martin yelled from the stage

“Oh my!” Gardevoir said.

“Four seconds! Three! Two! One!” Martin yelled.

“Redraw!” Gardevoir exclaimed.

“And number 543, you are out of time, we are going to have to redraw!” Martin exclaimed as he reached for the container with the numbers again.

“Okay,” Martin said as he fumbled his hand around the container.

“I wonder what the number is going to be?” Gardevoir wondered aloud.

“Okay! I have a number!” Martin exclaimed suddenly.

“What is it?” Gardevoir said

“Number 642! Your five minutes start now!” Martin yelled from the stage.

Charlie couldn’t believe it. He was in so much disbelief, that he didn’t realize Gardevoir had been calling his name for a full thirty seconds.

“Four minutes and thirty seconds, number 642!” Martin yelled

“Charlie, that’s you, are you going to claim it or not?” Gardevoir asked

“I will, I will!” Charlie exclaimed

“Four minutes and twenty seconds, ticket 642!” Martin exclaimed

“I have 642!” Charlie exclaimed, standing up.

“Great! Come up here on stage and hand me your ticket and I’ll tell you what to do from there!” Martin said

“Good luck, Charlie!” Gardevoir said
