I've started to learn to take care of myself first.
It gives me the strength that I need to help others and be there for them.
You need to be able to maintain your own mental health and well being in order to keep the strength that it may take to also be there for other people.
So often, I tend to get so caught up in checking on everyone else and being there for them, that I forget to make time for myself too.
I forget to make sure I'm okay.
If I'm not there for myself, then, who will be there for me?
I'm my own rock.
Nobody has got me the way I've got myself.
So, I've began to learn that it's okay.
It's okay to take time for yourself.
To sit in silence and allow yourself to process whatever thoughts are going through your mind.
To either turn off your phone, set it to "do not disturb," or flat out just not respond to calls or texts.
To take a break from social media.
Write, journal, read a book, color, draw, listen to music, etc..
Go on a coffee, lunch, or dinner date alone.
Take yourself shopping.
Do whatever you need to do to maintain your own well-being, mental health, and peace of mind.
It's okay.
You just have to remember to be there for yourself before you can be there for anyone else.
Because, then, when you know that you're okay and that you're in a good place, you have all the strength you need to be able to help others.
