The walk to the castle looked longer than it was. The streets seemed to be barren, a fact that confused Reina as it would normally be a time for people to be out, basking in the remaining sunlight of the day. Kids should have been out in the streets, playing before their parents called them in for dinner, but no one was out, the windows to the nearby houses weren't even open, another thing that stood out in the Asgard heat during this time of year.
"Where is everyone?" Reina questioned, continuing to look around, growing concerned at the lack of people.
"Since being notified of Surtur's return, we have implemented a curfew to be safe." Thor explained.
"We will have to hold a meeting tomorrow to inform the public that Surtur is no longer a threat and that the curfew will be lifted." Reina spoke regally.
"Jumping right back into it, aren't you Reina? Let's also not forget to inform them that their queen is back." Loki joked.
"That as well." Reina laughed as the group made it to the palace doors. Reina's siblings stepped aside, allowing a hole for Reina to reach the entrance. The golden doors were huge, aligned with a golden archway that seemed bigger than Reina had remembered it being, or maybe she was just shorter. They were smooth without door handles and only a very small crack down the center between them. She reached out her hand to the doors, grazing it lightly with her finger tips before placing her full palm on top of the crack in between the 2 doors. A faint glow emitted from around her hand before spreading to around the rest of the doors until they swung open revealing a long hallway, leading to a large throne room at the end.
The hall was darker than the outside of the palace but much more detailed. Once they reached the throne room, they found a celtic looking knot on the floor that pointed back the way they came and down 2 different hallways along each side. Reina's eyes fixated on the large throne in front of her. The golden backrest reached close to the ceiling and came to a point, resembling the edge of a sword with 2 more sculptures protruding out from the sides, resembling a hilt of the sword. A giant circle lay in the center, slightly elevated from a larger platform with stairs leading up to the golden throne that sat in the middle. On the lower platform sat 4 more thrones,2 on each side. On the left sat one that was dark, and made of stone with horns sticking out from the backrest. The other on the left was another gold one that was slightly more yellow than the gold that surrounded the rest of the castle with a design that resembled lightning bolts carved into the back and arms. The chair on the right that was closest to the throne was dark with a green tint to it, cracks shown through the stone that glowed a more pure shade of emerald green. The last chair was silver and looked to have used swords as the backrest.
"Isn't their only supposed to be one throne?" Sprite questioned.
"There used to be, but when Reina left the 4 of us had to work together to rule Asgard." Hela explained
"No one god could do the things she could" Loki joked, nudging Reina causing here to smile.
"None of us wanted to take the throne," Hela continued as if Loki hadn't spoken at all, "We knew that Reina was alive, so we were only taking over temporarily, so we made our own thrones until she came back."
"I like it. Maybe we should keep it like this." Reina smiled. A small silence followed until Val came up next to Reina, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Well..."
"Well what?" Reina questioned.
" I think it's time you take back your throne, don't you?" Val questioned, giving Reina a knowing smirk as her hand dropped back to her side. Reina didn't say anything, instead she walked up the platform, towards the main throne. Once she got to the top, she turned around, sitting softly on the throne before leaning back into the backrest, Her hands instinctively reaching to rest her arms on top of the armrests. Swinging her right leg up to fall on top of her left leg, the smile that already painted her face only grew.
"So, how does it feel?" Val inquired to Reina, her voice having to project more to reach her sister.
"It feels... right."
