After a small and quick tour of the castle for both Druig and Sprite, they realized that their quick tour hadn't been as quick as they had intended it to be. As they stood on the balcony toward the top of the castle the sun had hid behind the mountains in the distance long ago and the moon was now high in the sky. The time was reflected in their moods as they had all grown visibly tired. They collectively decided that it would be best to separate for the night and they would address any royal matter in the morning.
"Sprite, We have a lot of guest room, you can pick which one you want to use." Reina mentioned as Thor, and Loki headed back down the stairs to go to their rooms.
"There is one next to my room, if you want to use that." Val offered, noticing that Sprite looked sheepish and a little uncomfortable.
"Yeah, I would like that," Sprite answered after a minute, smiling up at Val. Val walked down the stairs to her room, chatting with Sprite on their way down.
"It will be good for her to have someone else down that corridor" Hela remarked with a laugh once the 2 were out of ear shot. "I'm gonna head to bed, I'll see you 2 in the morning."
Hela disappeared down the stairs as well and Druig turns to Reina, "What did she mean by that?"
Reina smiled and walked over to the railing on the edge of the balcony before responding. "It's just the way our rooms turned out. My mom wanted 6 kids. Her and my father had it all planed. They would sleep in the monarch quarters, the eldest 2, Hela and I, would stay in the east wing. The middle 2, Thor and Loki, would stay in the west wing, and the youngest 2 would stay in the south wing. My parents only had 5 children, so Val has the whole South wing to herself. All the wings have guest rooms but the south wing has the most."
"Shouldn't you be in the monarch quarters?"
Reina didn't respond right away. Rather she looked down, a shadow falling over her expression but her smile never faded."When I was first crowned both my parents were still alive. They offered to move to another room but I didn't want them too. The tradition is for the parents to give up the room to the monarch on their wedding night and when the king or queen consort has been crown," she paused, "I guess that's not going to happen now"
"I know your father died when you were away, but when did your mother die?" Druig questioned, grabbing Reina's hand in an attempt to comfort her.
"She died a year and a half after my coronation. She was killed... by dark elves. They invaded the castle," She paused not wanting to continue, "maybe it's a good thing she died when she did, she wouldn't have had to see me die fighting Surtur. My mom was always were protective of her kids. I don't know what she would have done."
A comfortable silence fell over them. Without them talking, there was no sound coming from the city below them. The stars in the sky shifted ever so slowly but they were still beautiful. The Asgardian sky was unlike anything on earth. You could see the other planets is you looked close enough. They stayed their, not saying anything, just watching the sky. It had been their first moment of true peace in days.
Reina yawned, still tired for the battle, and leaned her head on Druig's shoulder while she closed her eyes
"Tired, my darling?" Druig questioned, the nickname making Reina smile unconsciously as she nodded her head, but stayed seated, making no attempt to move.
"We can't go to bed if you don't stand up," Druig joked playfully causing Reina to huff but remain seated.
"I would carry you to bed but I don't know where your room is."
"Our room" Reina corrected him, finally starting to stand up.
"Our room." Druig repeated with a bigger smile than every before, standing up with Reina and following her as she started to walk down the staircase and off to THEIR room.
