Chapter 83: Mest

Carla and Lily were flying on their way to Tenrou Island, which they could already see from the distance.

Carla: That's Tenrou Island.

Lily: Are you sure it's okay for us to follow them here?

Carla: Why not? We're just going to watch.

Lily: Worried about Wendy, I see.

Carla starts throwing a tantrum.

Carla: Even though I was so dead-set against it, she...

Lily just looks at her with a smug smile.

Carla: It happened a week ago...

Carla told Lily about when Mest asked Wendy for help. Despite Mest being clearly a weirdo, she decided to team-up with him against Carla's warnings.

Carla: And in the end, she decided to help Mest in Mystogan's stead.

Lily: And that's why you haven't spoken this past week.

Carla: She's a lot more stubborn than she looks.

Lily: Same to you.

Carla: I don't really care about this Mest guy. It's this exam as a whole I have a really bad feeling about.

Lily: Your power to see the future, is it?

Carla: I'm not sure... It's too fragmented, so I can't say.

Lily: I'm curious about this Mest fellow.

Carla: Huh?

Lily: Mystogan's disciple... It doesn't sit right.

(Meanwhile)

Gray and Loke manage to arrive at the island and choose a path, where they encounter Mest and Wendy.

Mest: I want to know. I want to know your abilities.

Wendy: Mest-san, they're going to attack!

Loke attacks Mest with a Regulus-powered punch. Mest defends himself against the attack and detaches himself from Loke.

Loke: Of all people, it's Mest and Wendy we get to fight with.

Gray: I ain't holding back! Ice-Make... Hammer!

Gray attacks Mest with an Ice-Make: Hammer. The attack seems to have hit Mest, but Mest suddenly appears behind Gray.

Gray: When did he...

Gray blocks Mest's kick and engages him once more.

Wendy: Sky Dragon Roar!

Loke: Regulus, grant me the power!

Wendy attacks Loke with a Dragon Roar, but Loke counters by concentrating Regulus into a blast of magic power.

Loke: That's some force, alright...

Gray: Ice-Make Floor!

Gray interrupts the fight by turning the floor into ice, causing Wendy to slip and fall. Mest caught Gray off guard and tripped him over, leaping back after. Loke jumped at Mest and tried to punch him using Regulus Fist, but missed and broke through the rock. Mest was about to counterattack, but Loke created a flash of light using his magic, blinding Mest long enough for Gray to knock out Mest using Ice Make Bazooka. Wendy got up and realized Mest was knocked out.

Gray: All that's left is Wendy! I ain't gonna hold back, either! Ultimate Secret Technique: Just Eating Pickled Plums!

Gray brought out a jar of pickled plums and ate a few. His face reacted instantly and started to pucker from how sour it was. Wendy panicked slightly and stepped back.
