Chapter 38: Defeat your Friends to Save your Friends

The Fairy Tail members continued fighting amongst themselves as part of the Battle of Fairy Tail. The enchantments then started to change at a rapid pace, showing what appeared to be the current fights going on in the city.

Happy: "Max vs. Warren. Winner: Warren." "Vistar vs. Nab. Winner: Nab." Laki took out four, Macao vs. Wakaba's battle is in progress.

Makarov: Enough! Stop this, you foolish children!

Happy: Rune traps have been set up throughout the city. And the ones who are trapped inside are forced to fight.

Raiga: So this is the Battle of Fairy Tail Laxus was talking about. This is how he wants to determine who the strongest one around is.

Natsu: But why? I don't get it!

Happy: Natsu...

Natsu: I wanna join, too!

Raiga/Makarov/Happy: That's what he's upset about!?

Natsu: What's with this invisible wall.

Makarov then extended his hand and hit Natsu on the head.

Makarov: And what do you plan to do by joining in?

Natsu: It's a tournament to see who's the strongest!

Raiga: This isn't a tournament. Laxus is trying to get us to wipe each other out. If we don't defeat the Raijin Tribe within the time limit, the girls are a good as finished. Everyone is doing what they can to prevent that from happening. We need to do something soon, or they will turn into dust.

Natsu: Laxus acts bad, but he ain't gonna go that far.

Raiga: 'Scuse me?

Natsu: Yeah, he gets on my nerves, but he's a fellow guild member. It's a bluff, obviously.

Makarov: Natsu.

Natsu then ran up to the enchantment wall and started to push on it.

Natsu: This is just a fighting festival! But then why can't get out?

Happy: I can go through normally!

Raiga: If people over 80 can't pass through, then why are we stuck?

Natsu: Does that mean we're over 80?

Happy: I don't think you are, but...

Makarov: (You call Laxus your fellow member? You don't believe that he'll go that far?)

The enchantment then changed again.

Happy: There's 2 hours and 18 minutes left. And there are... 42 people left.

Makarov: 42 people? More than half are gone after the infighting!

Raiga: And in such a short amount of time? Wait, is the enchantment changing again?

Makarov: Evergreen vs. Elfman. Winner: Evergreen. Elfman. Out of commission.

Happy: I can't believe Elfman got beat!

Natsu: Gray's fighting Bickslow! I wanna join in!

Happy: Reedus is fighting Freed, too! The Raijin Tribe has started to make their move!

Eventually the Enchantment changed again.

Happy: Reedus was beaten!

Natsu: I figured Freed could do it! Look at him go!

Raiga: Stop acting like it's a good thing! How are we supposed to get help from Porlyusica now!?

Natsu: We don't need any. The whole turning to dust thing is a bluff.
