LINA'S POV

I cracked the eggs into a bowl and poured some milk and spices in there. I whisked it up and poured it into the pan. I scrambled it lightly and put it on a plate. I turned off the stove. I tied the top of my flight suit around my waist revealing my black r shirt underneath and I looked out of my apartment window. It was a clear sky today, perfect for flying. No wind, just the sun shining. I felt my phone buzzing and I flipped it over as I took a sip of my coffee. Unknown number. That's weird. I pressed accept and put the phone up to my ear.

"Hello." I said.

"Hi, is this Lina Cruise?" A woman asked.

"Yes." I said.

"Hi, my name is Maria Johnson, I'm a doctor at Miramar General Hospital." She said and my heart started racing.

"Okay." I got out.

"Ms. Cruise, are you sitting down?" She asked and I felt myself go numb.

"Who died? Mom? Dad?" I asked bluntly.

"Ms. Cruise, your mom was in a car accident last night, she came in with a major head trauma, internal bleedings, broken leg and neck." She said and I closed my eyes as I prepared myself for what she was going to say next.

"I'm very sorry Ms. Cruise, your mom passed away at 6:03 this morning." She said and I felt a sharp pain in my heart.

"You need me to come and identify her, don't you?" I asked.

"Yes." She said.

"I'll be right there." I said and hung up. I threw my mug into the wall, grabbed my keys and walked out to my car and took off.

When I was 10 years old my mom got diagnosed with cancer. She got really sick. For five years I guarded her with everything I had. I lived in that hospital. I didn't spend one night away from her. And I took care of her when she got to go home. I have taken care of her since. Her cancer has never been able to be cured. She has learned to lived with it, but she needs help every day. And she had gotten better lately, her energy was up and she could do some gardening without getting tired or nauseous. But she wasn't cleared to drive....

I parked the car, pulled down my aviators as I walked through the parking lot. I walked inside and up to the reception. I couldn't feel anything. I was numb, to my core.
