V: What is Love

Third POV

The room was silent as Katsuki gave Izuku some leniency to get it together.

He told Jirou to take Akiko to the living room and keep her entertained until they were done, living just him and her dam.

"You're not going to break down on me again, are you?" Katsuki inquired, watching Izuku go through his entire box of tissues trying to wipe away his overactive tear glands.

"No, we can start." Izuku stated, inhaling sharply and wiping at his reddened cheeks and nose, "What do you want to know?"

"You see, everyone leaves a paper trail, whether it's on surveillance tapes or doing daily activities like shopping." Katsuki started, "What bothers me is while I can see Awase's regular work and I'm somewhat aware of his not-so regular work, I can't seem to say the same about you."

"Aside from Akiko birth and before, I don't know a single thing, and it's quite vexing."

Izuku furrowed his brows, "I'm a housewife, like my mom used to be, so aside from taking care of our home and Akiko I have no reason to be outside."

Katsuki narrowed his gaze, "Housewife, right, but that still doesn't explain why you haven't gone shopping or anything."

"Where we lived there was a small shop so you could buy whatever you needed there, groceries, household  essentials whatever, and because Yosetsu always had money, either in cash or his own credit card, I could just buy it like that." Izuku explained, recalling his daily living, "Clothing was also online."

"There was even a park within the complex, so if I wanted Akiko to go out, she could always go there."

Katsuki tapped his chin, "He has credit cards that you use, and yet yours is maxed out? All of the ones in your name, I mean."

Izuku shook his head, feeling his heart pounding, "I haven't opened a credit card at all, just a debit card that he'd occasionally put money into incase the limit on his credit card had been reached."

"Most likely my money." Katsuki grumbled, making a fist on the table, but relaxing when he noticed the dampened expression on Izuku's face, "Right, but what did you do for hospital visits? Surely in the many years you've been off the grid you'd need to see some sort of healthcare professional."

Izuku nodded, "I don't get sick very easily, and neither did Awase, however, Akiko was born with a slightly weak system, and yet, Awase said I didn't need to go to the hospital, and he had a friend who was a licensed professional."

"I didn't question it because they always took such good care of Akiko and gave me good advice whenever she fell ill. Like our own personal doctor."

Katsuki couldn't blame Izuku for that.

He had his own personal doctor considering he hated how nosy most hospitals could be.

But then...

"Did you really never leave home? I thought you originally left your mother because of how overbearing she could be?" Katsuki pushed, unsure with Izuku's lifestyle.

Izuku dipped his head, nodding, "I did, but with Yosetsu it was different."

"I wasn't trapped at all, and I could go anywhere, but I never had the need to; especially since Akiko was right there waiting for me, needing me."

He then brushed his hair back, giving Katsuki a genuine look, "I mean, your life is different than mine, so I'm sure you question everything around you."

Katsuki shrugged, then nodded.

He couldn't be hesitant for a moment.

That could mean life or death for him.

"Fine, one last question," Katsuki grunted, realizing he was getting to sentimental, "And don't lie to me, because I'll find out eventually,"

"Did you really not know about what Awase was doing?"

Izuku looked up at him, his gaze hardened despite both of them knowing it was a farce, "I swear on Akiko's life. I didn't know."

"He told me he just got a really good job when I think this all started happening and we were thinking of moving out of the apartment and into a really home so Akiko could have more space..."

He then let out a dry, pained laugh, "Shows you what the hell I know."

"He tricked me. For six nearly seven whole years, he fucking tricked me."

Izuku clenched his jaw, shaking his head, "Sorry for the language... are we done here?"

Katsuki wavered, "More or less, I have a few calls to make, but I'll try to see if I can get your mother out so you two can have a proper sit down."

"I'll be busy for the next week or so, so keep out of trouble, but eventually I'll call you back so we can discuss how all of this going to work moving forward."

Izuku raised his brows, not sure how much hope he had, "You don't plan on killing me?"

"Well, I believe you for now, so you and Akiko will be fine," Katsuki stated, "If I do find out something..."

He made a gun motion, pointing it to Izuku's forehead, "Lights out for the entire family, it is."

He then waved, letting Izuku go.

Izuku stood up quietly, still feeling Katsuki's unreadable gaze on him.

"You keep looking at me like that," He muttered, not turning back, "Do you feel pity?"

Katsuki shrugged, "Possibly, but possibly not."

"Then have you ever been in love?" Izuku pushed, reaching the door, "Or any sort of caring for anyone?"

"Being crushed by it is one hell of a torture."

Katsuki turned around in his chair, looking outside,
"No, I try not to feel shit for anyone. Makes it a whole lot easier for my job to not get attached."

Izuku let out a hum, not sure what kind of response he was expecting from the man who showed no signs of hesitation of possibly killing a baby,

"Then hope that it stays that way."

As he then left without another word.

A moment or two passed when Katsuki faced forward again.

He stared at the snubbed cigar, shaking his head disapprovingly.

What in the world was he doing?
