XXV: On to Him

Third POV

Three days had passed since that night.

The Bakugo Manor had reverted back to its somewhat peaceful state, now that a new event was coming around.

Ashido's twenty-eighth birthday bash.

Aside from Bakugo, who despite threatening his own crew time and time again to refrain from throwing him a huge party, Ashido loved hosting large celebrations.

She just had to!

It was a great way aside from holidays and the occasional vacations for everyone to gather and celebrate.

It even got to a point where Katsuki was done with trying to argue with her and just let her be and ditch her work duties so she could plan out what she wanted and how she wanted it.

Presently, Katsuki was at home, downstairs in the makeshift gym, lifting weights with Kirishima as his spotter.

"And she's insisting that travel is a must." Kirishima's voice broke through the clanking sounds of weights, "Between that and the outfit changes I don't know where to start."

"I see a lot of overtime in my future."

Katsuki, who felt a bead of sweat run down his face as he bench pressed a weight of 225 lbs (102 kg), gently letting it fall before Kirishima took over and placed it back onto its post.

"You're the one who insisted on making her 28th special," Katsuki hummed, wiping away at his sweat with the towel that laid draped across his waist, "Plan on proposing?"

Kirishima shook his head.

Ashido and him had been together for ten years, and while it was love at first sight for him, she was a bit more tougher than him.

She loved all things romance, but when it came to herself she just said it was never the right time to get married so she'd always reject Kirishima's idea of a marriage proposal.

Kirishima didn't mind it though, he loved her and knew she loved him.

"Nah, I might gift her a promise ring." The redhead shook his head, placing his hands on his sweatpants covered hips, "It's the same thing, but not really..."

Katsuki sat upright, letting his muscles cool down before he went to the next set of bench presses, "How cute," he stated, making his voice high pitched and blinking repeatedly, "How romantic-!"

Kirishima rolled his eyes, knowing this teasing was payback for earlier, "Alright now, that's enough about me."

"What about you? You're getting closer with Midoriya." Kirishima added, giving Katsuki a shit-eating grin, "Any closer to tapping him?"

"I mean, you did drop a bunch of money on a bracelet for someone you're supposed to be getting your money back from."

"No. Now, knock it off, you spiky-haired idiot," Katsuki tsked, realizing he'd just dug himself a grave by poking fun of Kirishima, "And I don't care to 'tap' him.

"And I though it was pretty clear that Izuku means nothing at this point, and if things go well he'll mean the same to me as the rest of you extras."

His gaze then flickered to the windows, watching Uraraka's car suddenly pulled up and the brunette was greeted by the dam he just spoke on.

"...Anyways, I've heard nothing on Todoroki's end, so do tell me you have something from the park shootout." Katsuki pushed, looking at the redhead who tapped his chin.

"Todoroki actually just responded with what his team found," Kirishima chirped, "According to his connections with Kenji Tsuragamae, yknow chief of police within this area, they got paid a huge sum of money in cash."

"Alongside the money was a simply a note that said damage control and park incident."

Katsuki furrowed his brows, watching as Uraraka and Izuku's figures disappear back up the outdoor stairs and to the inside of the home, "Did he say who gave it to him?"

"Nah, it was anonymous," Kirishima shrugged, "When Todoroki asked about it or why he didn't follow up, Tsuragamae had said that he assumed it was us just trying to get the job done, and because no one other than Izuku and Akiko were target and nobody else got hurt at the park it was a done deal."

Katsuki clicked his tongue, reaching for a cigarette in his pocket, only to realize he'd left it upstairs, "Don't tell me they already scrubbed the footage?"

"They didn't need to, because the cameras couldn't pick up the assailants because the trees had yet to be trimmed yet. To say they got lucky was the understatement of the year," Kirishima grumbled.

Katsuki exhaled deeply, unimpressed with how this investigation was going.

"If anything," He started, "I think we have a pretty good fucking clue that whoever Awase was working with, must've been aware that Awase is no longer in the picture because they're now targeting Izuku and Akiko."

"And if that's the case, they must have some idea that we've already reached Akiko and Izuku." Kirishima added, not liking the idea one bit, "Yknow Bakugo, as much as we tease you for it, while the money is a big part, it's no longer the most important thing here."

His jaw clenched, wrapping his finger around the bar holding the weights.

He could feel his blood boil just thinking about what was supposed to be a happy day turn into a horrific disaster.

Whoever Awase was working with, was now actively targeting Akiko and Izuku.

"I swear, if I ever catch whoever Awase was working with, I'll be sure not even fucking crows can peck at their mangled remains." Katsuki murmured under his breath.

Kirishima just eyed his companion, letting his hands hover around the bar as his job as a spotter.

As someone not too close to Izuku as Katsuki was, even Kirishima was finding it incredibly hard to not grow feelings towards Izuku and Akiko.

And as stubborn as Katsuki was, the more the Prime Alpha kept trying to deny it, it was clear to Kirishima and the rest of them that Izuku was doing something to him.
