Branch sighed and touched a picture of his late grandma.
Branch: I miss you, Grandma, I wish you could see me today. I met someone amazing...she changed me for the better since I lost you that day. I asked for her hand in marriage, and she said yes. We're getting married in a few months, and I'll be sure to save a seat especially for you.
Tears began to form in his eyes and he folded his arms on top of his table before burying his head in them. He began to sob silently. He just wanted a hug from his grandma again.
Poppy: Branch...?
Unbeknownst to Branch, his beloved fiancée heard everything he said, he was grieving...and she hated when he got like that. She knew about what happened to his grandma, and that wasn't something he usually liked to talk about. She sat next to him and put a hand on his shoulder.
Poppy: Branch...you miss her, don't you?
Branch: Yeah...
Poppy: Oh Branch...
Poppy gave him a kiss on his cheek and started to rub his back.
Branch: You don't get it, Poppy, my grandma was everything to me, she took care of me when I lost my parents and my brothers walked out on me.
Poppy: She must've been an amazing troll.
Branch: She was...she always said that I was her favorite. She used to spoil me all the time, she even taught me how to sing and everything. I still have everything that reminds me of her. And yet...it just hurts to look at them.
Poppy: Branch...I can only imagine what you must be going through, I'm sure your grandma was amazing, but...you need to move on.
Branch: How can I? I love her too much. I'll never be able to move on.
Poppy: Branch...how do you think I felt when I found out I had a sister I never got to know growing up? How do you think I felt when I heard about my mom that I'll never get to hug or talk to? Even I have my weaknesses, we all do. The important thing is that you move on.
Branch: You don't understand, Poppy, I loved her just as much as I love you.
Poppy blushed a little bit hearing that from Branch. She gasped a little when Branch pulled her into a big hug and kissed her cheek.
Poppy: Oh Branch...
Branch: I love you so much...!
Poppy: I love you too, Branch...but...you need to let her go. That's the first step to healing.
Branch: I can't, Poppy, my grandma was my only family when I lost everything.
Poppy: Branch, I felt the same way. Up until recently, my father was my only family. Meeting Viva was like a dream come true...other than not being able to meet my mom, my family felt whole again. And...well, you're about to have a new family, I promise your grandma will be a part of it.
Poppy thought for a moment and smiled. She picked up a photo of the seating arrangements for their wedding and circled a seat up front with a red marker.
Branch: What's that for...?
Poppy: That seat's reserved...for your grandma.
Branch: Poppy, I...thank you, thank you so much.
Poppy: Of course, we're family now.
Poppy gave Branch a kiss on his forehead and pulled him into a big hug, ready to help him on his journey of healing.
