Poppy: Branch...?Branch could swear he heard Poppy's voice, she had been sleeping in his bedroom because she was trying to get used to living in his bunker after their wedding. Branch shrugged it off and went back to sleep on his couch assuming he was just hearing things.
Poppy: BRANCH!!!!
But that last shout was definitely real, Branch realized that Poppy really was calling for him and ran to his bedroom to check on her.
Branch: Poppy?!
Poppy didn't reply, the only sounds you could hear from her were her distressed whimpers and she was tossing and turning in Branch's bed.
Poppy: Branch...hurry...please stop them...!
Branch approached Poppy's side and gently shook her.
Branch: Poppy, you're dreaming, wake up.
Poppy's eyes shot open and she sat up rapidly, she put her hand over her chest panting.
Branch: Hey...you okay?
Poppy turned to Branch, her eyes filled with fear. She began to fight the tears forming in her eyes and held his hand tightly.
Branch: You wanna talk about it?
Poppy: I...I had a nightmare.
Branch immediately knew how she felt, he sat down next to her and put his arm around her giving her a kiss on her cheek.
Branch: I know what that's like, Poppy. Wanna tell me? Just get it off your chest?
Poppy: Uh...I...
Branch: Take your time, take your time.
Poppy: ...Do you...remember when I was captured by the Bergens...?
Branch: How could I forget?
Branch gently put his hand over Poppy's scarred arm.
Poppy: I dreamed of that day...but you did nothing to stop them...you just stood there like you didn't even care...and you just let them take me.
That stung, Poppy had a nightmare about Branch being a jerk? Sure, he was pretty closed up and fussy back then, but he wasn't heartless.
Branch: C'mere.
Poppy hugged Branch tightly and he wrapped his arms around her gently caressing her back.
Poppy: It was so scary, Branch...I thought it was real...it didn't feel like a dream...I really thought you didn't care.
Branch: Hey, look at me.
Poppy looked up at Branch and he gently touched her cheek.
Branch: Do you really think I don't care? Do you think I would do something like that to you?
Poppy: No...I know you wouldn't...but it was so real, I thought you actually would.
Branch: Hey...if I didn't care about you, then I wouldn't have married you. That day...I gave it my all just for you, and I have no regrets.
Poppy: I know...but-
Branch: No buts, Poppy, dreams aren't real. My grandma always told me that they reflect our own fears and emotions. Tell me, what are you afraid of?
Poppy wiped her tears making eye contact with her husband.
Poppy: Losing you...and people I love. I guess...maybe I'm letting that get to my head...I love you so much, Branch.
Branch felt better hearing that from Poppy, he knew one thing for sure, she was very brave, and seeing her so scared and vulnerable broke his heart.
Branch: Can I tell you something, Poppy?
Poppy: Of course...
Branch: ...I have nightmares too.
Poppy: You...do?
Branch: We all do, Poppy. In your case, it's something you're afraid of. In my case...it's going through grief again...
Poppy immediately realized what Branch was talking about.
Poppy: Your grandma...?
Branch: Yeah...I keep reliving that day almost every night.
Poppy: You must miss her.
Branch: Deeply...but, in a way, it also comforts me.
Poppy: It does?
Branch: Yeah...I was only a kid when I lost her...seeing her in my dreams, it's almost like she's right there with me.
Poppy thought about Branch's words, and it did help ease her tension.
Poppy: So...in a way, you just see the goodness in your nightmares.
Branch: I guess you could say that, Poppy.
Poppy blushed and hugged Branch tightly, a small smile on her face.
Branch: There's a smile.
Poppy giggled and tightened her grip around Branch.
Poppy: Do you mind...staying with me tonight?
Branch: Whatever it takes to dry those tears. Anything for you, my love.
Poppy smiled and closed her eyes resting against her loving husband's chest, a comforting song played in the back of her mind which helped her get the sleep she desperately needed.
I know your favorite song
I hear it everyday
Whoever made your smile
Made it to get in my way
And every time you laugh
You make that little sound
It's just the hardest thing
To love you but not know howSo I spend all my nights in the dark and afraid
'Cause I've tried to forget you but these things just don't go awayI hate that you're perfect, perfect for me
If I didn't know better then I would believe
We were made for each other
But I'd know the truth
You're no good for me, I'm no good for you
And I hate that you're perfect, you're perfect for me
I hate that you're perfect, you're perfect for meWhat good are words when they always just get in our way
And it hurts the most just to know that you don't feel the same, the same
So sometimes I get down on my knees and I pray things will change
But life is what happens when things they don't work out our way, our waySo I spend all my nights in the dark and afraid
'Cause I've tried to forget you but these things just don't go away, awayI hate that you're perfect, perfect for me
If I didn't know better then I would believe
We were made for each other
But I'd know the truth
You're no good for me, I'm no good for you
And I hate that you're perfect, you're perfect for me
I hate that you're perfect, you're perfect for me
