Branch: Hey, love.
Poppy's eyes fluttered open and she partially aroused from her feverish sleep. She looked up at Branch who was smiling at her and stroking her head.
Branch: How are you, babe?
Poppy started to moan and she fell back on her bed. Branch felt her forehead, she was burning up, her fever slightly higher than the day before.
Poppy: I feel like I got hit by a gray rainbow...
Branch didn't like when Poppy talked like that, that was how he knew something wasn't right, and in this case, it was a bad fever. He took another blanket out of his backpack and draped it over her.
Poppy: Thank you...
Branch: Do you need anything?
Poppy: So...thirsty...
Branch understood and picked up a bucket of water he had filled about an hour ago. He dipped a small ladle into the bucket and brought it up to Poppy's lips.
Branch: Here, sip this.
Poppy held the ladle into her hands and sipped the water, the cool liquid quenching her parched throat.
Branch: Your fever's still pretty high, but it's not alarming, you should feel better soon, okay?
Poppy nodded her head and grabbed Branch's hand, holding it tightly.
Poppy: Did anyone ever tell you how big your heart is?
Branch blushed hearing that from his beloved girlfriend. Her condition she was in was a starch contrast to her bubbly bouncy energy and endless talking everyday. Now she lay in bed with a fever, looking tired no matter how long she slept and she hardly spoke.
Branch: Only you.
Poppy smiled and rubbed her eyes letting out a soft yawn. Branch placed a cool washcloth on her forehead to bring her fever down.
Branch: I feel really bad for you, Poppy, you've been laying in bed for 3 days, the village is really quiet without you. I miss you coming to my bunker every night. Don't worry, wouldn't want Poppy 911 starting up in the village, I didn't tell anyone anything. I just told them that you needed a break from being queen.
Poppy nodded her head and curled up under her bed sheets. That was partially true, being queen did stress her out, but she would be even more stressed out if the village found out she was sick.
Poppy: Do you remember our first date?
Branch smiled when he heard Poppy recalling that beautiful night.
Branch: Of course I do, Poppy, I sang to you by the waterfall, it was just the two of us there. It was a lovely night, just like you.
Poppy looked up blushing, feeling so flattered at his words.
Poppy: Sing to me...?
Branch: If it'll make you feel better, sure.
Branch was more than happy to sing for his beloved Poppy, sick or not. She would've done the same for him.
Said all I want from you is to see you tomorrow
And every tomorrow, maybe you'll let me borrow your heart
And is it too much to ask for every Sunday
And while we're at it, throw in every other day to startI know people make promises all the time
Then they turn right around and break them
When someone cuts your heart open with a knife, now you're bleeding
But I could be that guy to heal it over time
And I won't stop until you believe it
'Cause baby you're worth itSo don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me
'Cause you might look around to find your dreams come true, with me
Spent all your time and your money just to find out that my love was free
So don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me, me
It's not a bad thing to fall in love with me, meNow how about I'd be the last voice you hear tonight?
And every other night for the rest of the nights that there are
Every morning I just wanna see you staring back at me
'Cause I know that's a good place to startI know people make promises all the time
Then they turn right around and break them
When someone cuts your heart open with a knife, now you're bleeding
Don't you know that I could be that guy to heal it over time
And I won't stop until you believe it
'Cause baby you're worth itSo don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me
'Cause you might look around to find your dreams come true, with me
Spent all your time and your money just to find out that my love was free
So don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me, me
It's not a bad thing to fall in love with me, me
Not such a bad thing to fall in love with me
(Not such a bad thing to fall in love with me)No I won't fill your mind
With broken promises and wasted time
And if you fall, you'll always land right in these arms
These arms of mineDon't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me
'Cause you might look around to find your dreams come true, with me
Spent all your time and your money just to find out that my love was free
So don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me, me
It's not a bad thing to fall in love with me, me
Not such a bad thing to fall in love with mePoppy smiled and closed her eyes listening to Branch's beautiful voice, enjoying it despite her illness.
Branch: Feel better, Poppy?
Poppy: So much...better...
Poppy began to drift off to sleep, already feeling better from her illness thanks to her beloved boyfriend. Branch couldn't help but smile when he saw how peaceful she looked under her bed sheets. She looked like a little angel, like nothing in the world could ever hurt her.
Branch: You're so beautiful, rose petal.
He knelt down next to her bed just watching her dream away in her cozy bed. He felt bad that he couldn't do much for her, but the fever would go away on its own. Poppy had always been a fighter, and she could easily handle a fever, she had been through a lot worse and a fever was nothing for her. He gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead, his soft lips lingering on her temple.
Branch: Feel better soon, Poppy, I love you so much, my flower. I'll always be here for you no matter what comes in between us.
