Two Worlds, One Love

I once saw this TrollsTopia toy with Poppy as a mermaid, so I thought about writing a short story with that in mind

Poppy looked around making sure she was alone before escaping from her bedroom and swimming to the surface, her shiny blue tail sparkling in the moonlight. As a mertroll, she was often told by her family that she should never visit the surface no matter how interesting it seemed, but the curiosity got the better of her and that became a new habit for her in the last few months she had been doing it. When she got to the surface, she swan to the edge of the lake and started waving.

Branch: Hey, there you are.

Branch, a land Troll, walked over to Poppy and held her hands. What Poppy didn't tell her dad and sister was that...she found love. But if she told them that she fell for a land Troll, they wouldn't approve, she and Branch had been seeing each other for the last 3 months, but she didn't mention it to anyone, not even to her closest friends.

Poppy: Am I too late?

Branch: Just a little, better late than never.

Poppy nodded and looked down, her tail flickering slightly in the water, she had tell tell signs whenever something bothered her, and Branch was an observant Troll, he could read them easily.

Branch: What's wrong?

Poppy: Huh?

Branch: Your tail's flickering, something's bothering you.

Poppy shook her head trying to dismiss it, she just wanted to spend time with Branch and forget about everything else.

Poppy: I-I'm fine, Branch, let's go.

Branch: Okay...

Poppy held onto Branch's hands as he helped her out of the water, her tail immediately becoming legs and a blue dress the same color as her tail covering her body. Some mertrolls had the ability to blend in as land Trolls when they were out of the water, and she was one of them. Branch put his arm around her as they made their way into the nearby village.

Branch: You sure nothing's bothering you?

Poppy: Yeah...I'm okay.

Poppy and Branch both descended into Branch's bunker on his elevator and sat on the couch together, Poppy wrapping a soft blanket around her body. Branch getting some snacks ready before picking up his remote to start the movie. But as he was about to turn the TV on, he noticed Poppy looking down fiddling her fingers.

Branch: Poppy...we've been together for the last 3 months, I know when something's bothering you. There's clearly something you're not telling me.

Poppy sighed, she often forgot that Branch was an observant Troll and most of the time, he could see right through her. Either way, she couldn't lie to her boyfriend.

Poppy: I'm just...worried...about telling my dad and sister about us.

Branch: What do you mean? Things have been going well between us, why wouldn't they know?

Poppy: ...My dad has very strict rules. Us mertrolls aren't allowed to visit the surface unless necessary. He doesn't know that I've been visiting the surface...let alone dating a land Troll.

Branch was confused when Poppy said that, he knew her family was very by the book, but why wouldn't they be allowed up the surface?

Branch: But he should know, because...y'know.

He gestured his hand up and down pointing out her land Troll form. Poppy looked down and sighed.

Poppy: I'm one of the few mertrolls that can come on land, my dad and sister can't do that. But he doesn't know that, and he would probably banish me if he found out that he had a daughter that was part land Troll...
