Peter

"No!" A scream jolted me from a slumber I didn't realize I was in. My eyes shot open at the first sound of her cry but she was up before I was. I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked down and spotted her sitting up slightly from where it looked like she was curled into my arms. She rubbed her eyes aggressively and sat up further.

"Are you okay?" I spoke gently, afraid to startle her further.

"Huh?" She muttered out and looked over her shoulder to see me. "Oh, yeah. I'm okay." She was clearly still half asleep as her body tried to pull her back in.

"But your nose is bleeding," I pointed out and gazed at her worriedly. She furrowed her brows, eyes still squinted with exhaustion, and wiped her nose with the back of her (non dominant) hand. She looked at the blood but seemed unbothered as her worn out eyes fought to stay open.

"Just a nightmare." She spoke plainly before looking around the room and dropping her arm to the bed. Her eyes traveled across every corner of her room but widened as she spotted me again. As if finally processing where she was, she shot off of the bed and ogled at me.

"What's wrong?" I asked as I moved to the edge of the mattress. "Are you okay?"

"We fell asleep?!" She gasped out and looked from me to the pillows we were previously resting on. "We can't do that!" She shook her head wildly.

"Why, what's wrong?" I repeated and stood up fully, failing to hide the rejection I was feeling.

"Peter." She seethed as if I was an idiot. "What if I touched you?"

"I have my suit on" I pointed out and held my arms out as if it would give her a better look.

"Your face!" She scoffed and shook her head again. "No. No, that was too close. We can't risk it." She was becoming frustrated as she seemed to fight a battle in her own head. "I won't risk it!"

"Woah woah woah," I put my arms up and took a few steps closer to her. She stopped rambling and watched with sad eyes as I gently rested my hands on her biceps. "Talk to me."

"You're so fragile." She squeaked out through heavy breaths as she tried to hold in her tears. Her lack of sleep was not helping her uncontrollable emotions. "I don't know what I would do if I..." She looked at the ground as she didn't want to finish the sentence.

"It's alright. It didn't happen. We will be more careful, okay?" I cooed as she looked back up to me. As she realized I was coddling her, her eyebrows furrowed with frustration.

"That's not the point!" She exploded and yanked away from my grasp and walked towards the bed. "You're getting too comfortable."

"And you're not?" I scoffed and crossed my arms over my chest, somewhat hurt that she was outcasting my feelings. She whipped her head around to look at me, a subtle glare in her eyes.

"Do you really think we could have anything like that? Anything normal?" She was shaking her head as she walked back over to me."We can't. So stop expecting me to reciprocate your feelings. I can't." I just watched her for a few seconds, as I had no idea what to say. On one hand, I was crushed about her basically rejecting me. On the other hand, I was a bit elated that she seemed upset about it.

"But you want to?" I pointed out, just above a whisper. Her face fell from frustration to a look of sadness as she looked at the floor.

"I'm gunna go take a shower." She spoke back lightly before turning around abruptly. I knew better than to push her when she makes it clear she's done talking, so I simply sighed. At the very least, she had almost admitted how she was feeling about us; Torn.
