Peter
"So." Bruce looked at me in the rear view mirror. "What happened?"
I looked down at Y/n, her head resting on my lap as she napped peacefully across the back seat, and frowned. The streetlights floated across her skin as we slowly made the drive home, highlighting the dried blood coating her lips and nostrils.
"She couldn't remember her mom." I started and (tucked her hair behind her ear/brushed a thumb across her chin) delicately. "Then she got this weird feeling and we ended up finding the place that the doctor took her."
"Really?" He asked with concern. "How did that go?"
"Rough." I sighed and shook my head. "But it could have gone worse. I'm proud of her." A small smile found its way onto my lips as I continued to watch her. When she shattered that skull, I thought I would have to talk her down from leveling the entire room. Instead of blinding anger, she felt an emotion that helped empty the burden of her soul: Grief.
"But still no memory of her past?" He asked.
"Just what he did to her. But I don't think it matters anymore." I met his eyes again as they bounced back and forth from me to the road. "We're just moving forward."
"I'm glad." He spoke and kept his eyes on the pavement now. "She was worrying me."
"Me too."
The two of us fell into a comfortable silence as he took the last few turns onto the property. While pulling up to the garage, I could see Mr. Stark waiting patiently on the bench near the front door. He stood up as we passed him and began walking into the garage after us.
"Y/n," I spoke lightly to her as Bruce put the car in park. "We're back." Her eyes fluttered open lightly but quickly squinted as she sat up, looking around in a confused manor.
"Where are we?" She asked with a weak voice and rubbed her slightly swollen eyes. I cracked a small smile as I watched her attempt to adjust to her surroundings.
"We're back home." I used her word for the building and felt my chest warm up with affection. "Let's get you in bed."
She let out a mumble of a phrase and rubbed her eyes again before finally looking at me. I turned to the side and opened the car door, scooching out and extending my hand. She gently grabbed hold and let me pull her to the edge of the seat and then to her feet. Her eyes were drooping with exhaustion as she wrapped her fingers around mine.
She shuffled her feet lightly and let me guide her to the two men conversing at the door. Her eyes watched the ground as she dragged her free hand down her face lazily.
"How'd it go?" Tony asked as we were still a few feet away.
"Not how we expected," I said and looked at her. "But I think it was good." She nodded her head in agreement but stayed quiet.
"Well, we can talk in the morning." He spoke as he watched her with gentle eyes. "It looks like it's past your bedtime." She nodded in agreement again and the three of us cracked smiles at her. It was sort of similar to when she was on painkillers; She was adorably loopy and it was nice to see her in a peaceful state of being.
I thought she was adorable, at least.
"Come on." My voice was light as I began walking us to the door. She followed me without question and I waved goodnight to the men.
"Goodnight kids." Tony rolled his eyes but didn't hide the smirk on his lips.
I opened the door and guided her through, all the while the two men went back to talking. We walked silently, hand in hand down the corridor. The hallways seemed endless as always before we finally made it to her bedroom. I turned the handle and pushed the door open before letting her hand go.
