It's been a few weeks since Mona's party and Hanna was hit by a car causing her to break her leg.

We all always go over to help her and Mrs. Marin. Freakin A decided to sign Hanna's cast and she freaked out in the hospital about it.

As of right now, I'm at home staring at a bunch of envelops that were supposedly sent to me.

My parents would've told me, right? Maybe not. Who knows? At least I have them now, but I'm just too damn nervous to open them.

What would Jason have said? There's only one way to find out, but I don't want to read them. I do, but at the same time I don't.

I quickly grab one and open it. It read:

Dear Candice,

I know you're probably pissed at me and my family for leaving without saying goodbye, but you have to know we couldn't stay. It was too hard.

I need to hear from you. I would call or text, but I didn't think you would answer or respond. You may not even respond to this, but I have to try.

About that night when you kissed me, I didn't stop it because I liked it. It felt right. I just wish you weren't drunk, so you could've remembered it.

Maybe one day if I go back, we could get some coffee and-

"Hey, what are you reading?" Emily asked sitting next to me on the couch.

"The letters Jason wrote to me after he and his family left. A had them, read them, now it's my turn," I said folding it up and putting it back on the table.

"So how are things between the two of you?" She asked.

"Good. But I know A will get in the way and destroy it."

"Hey, enjoy it while it lasts."

"So, did you need something?"

"My dad's coming home for a couple days and I was wondering if you could come to a welcome home party tomorrow night."

"Of course. I love your dad," I said.

"Thank you. I have to go, but I'll see you later, ok?" She asked standing up.

"Yeah. Bye," I said walking her out. "Be safe!"

She smiled, but nodded and drove away. I was about to close the door when Jason started walking towards me.

"Hey," I said letting him in. "What did I do to deserve this pleasant surprise?"

"Candy, can we talk?" He asked sitting on the couch.

Uh oh. Not good.

"Sure," I said putting the letters into a drawer.

"It's not bad, I promise."

"Okay. What is it?"

"I'm going to be working at the school, so that means-"

"We have to break up," I finished staring at the wall.

"What? No. We would have to be a secret," he said grabbing my hands causing me to look at him.

"I'm not going to be someone's secret. I know well enough those tear people apart," I said as a tear fell down my cheek. "I'm so sorry, Jason, but I can't do that. Not to myself and especially not to you. You deserve better than that."

"I don't want to break up-"

"I know, neither do I. But let's face it, you need that job. I won't stand in the way."

"Cand-"

"Jason, there is so much going on in my life, and I'm definitely not going to bring you down with it. I love you, always remember that. No matter how many stupid decisions I make, or how much trouble I get in, I will always love you."

"I love you too," he said wiping some of my tears. "One day we will go back to the way we were. I promise."

He kissed my cheek then left. I can't believe I did that, but if I hadn't, A would've gotten to him.

I will never bring him into this. It's me against A. I got a text and opened it. Of course it's the devil.

Smart choice breaking up with him. It was a matter of days before he would've gotten hurt. I'll see you at the dance.

-A

The dance. Oh my god, that's in a couple of weeks. Looks like I have to go. Hopefully I'm not alone.
