When I finished, I wiped my eyes and stared at Joe, for any kind of response. None.

He was silent for a couple minutes as I sat down next to him. Soon he grabbed my hand in his, looking at me.

"I can't believe it," he said. "That it happened to you and that you wouldn't tell me about it."

"Well, it's not exactly a conversation starter. Besides, it was nice to have someone in my life who didn't look at me with pity in their eyes every time they saw me," I explained. "I'm so sorry for not telling you sooner, but it's hard."

"It's fine, that was the only secret right?" He asked.

"Yes, the only one," I smiled.

"I'm so sorry that this happened to you."

"Well, I still have a few scars, but I'm fine other than that."

"How-"

"Joe, let's not talk about it. Let's just talk about something else."

So we did, and it worked for a little while, that is until there was a knock on the door.

Joe answers it and immediately starts to yell. Slowly, I walk up and see Jason again.

I push Joe to our room so he can calm down and walk back to Jason. He looked down not meeting my eyes.

"Jason, you have to leave. You can't keep showing up in my life," I said.

"I know, I'm sorry," he said surprising me. "I guess I thought you wouldn't be with anybody when you got back home, but I was wrong. When we got your wedding invitation, my heart broke and I came here with no plan."

"Jason, I'm sorry. I never meant to break your heart," I apologized.

"Don't apologize. All I've done is make everything worse, I'm so sorry."

"Hey, come inside," I said opening the door wider.

"You sure? What about-"

"We need to at least try to be friends. So get your ass in here and sit in the kitchen."

He walked in and I followed silently as Joe came out and looked at me in disbelief.

"We just have to hear him out, okay? That's it," I said making three glasses of water.

"Fine, then he's gone."

I nodded and sat down handing Jason a glass of water with a slight smile.

He just talked and explained everything. I felt bad and Joe looked slightly less angry. Slightly.

Late that night, Jason staid and slept on the couch as Joe and I made our way to our room.

After grabbing a blanket for Jason, I laid it over his sleeping figure smiling slightly.

"My hero," he whispered with a small smile.

"How am I your hero?"

"You give me another chance."
