Darius pov
A few hours later I jumped into the cold pond to wash off all the dirt and blood before returning home. I stayed underwater and enjoyed how the rest of the world disappeared around me. Unfortunately, the need for oxygen forced me to the surface.
After cleaning up, I put on my clothes and started walking home.
"Do you really think we don't have a mate?" Kane asked suddenly.
I stopped dumbfounded. We've never really talked about our mate.
"Honestly, I'd love to have a mate. I just don't want to be burden to them. Why do you ask?" I answered.
"I don't know, you just got me thinking. I'm tired of this anger and emptiness inside of us. Maybe a mate could make us feel less empty." Kane said.
"Yeah maybe.."
I continued walking and thought about my possible mate. I'm scarred, hot-tempered and always in a bad mood. I would just scare my mate away.
Without realizing it, I was already home and froze in my place when I realized where I was walking. My mom's garden.. My chest tightened when I thought about how much time we spent there before she was taken from me. I haven't been there since that day. I know that omegas water the plants, but otherwise it's not taken care of. Suddenly it was hard to breathe..
"Darius! You're back."
Asher's voice startled me and I looked away from the garden.
"What?" I grumbled. I'm so frustrated with myself.
"Look who's in the same good mood as when he left. Elder Kelly wants to talk to you and she's waiting for your call." Asher said.
I groaned out loud and rubbed my face. "What did she want?"
"She didn't say directly but I think the elders want you to choose a mate for yourself." Asher replied as we started to walk to the packhouse.
"As if that would ever happen." I growled and Kane agreed with me.
"And Alpha Gregor from the Red Claw Pack left a call, he wants to discuss working with our pack again." Asher continued.
"For fuck's sake! That asshole can wait for my call until his last breath. Anything else?" Asher was silent but I could clearly see that he was leaving something unsaid.
"Asher."
"Fine! Brianna has told some members that you are going to make her Luna. Again." He said quickly and took a step away from me.
I growled loudly and went looking for her. What the hell is wrong with these people? Brianna just wants to gain power but that bitch is far from what Luna should be like. And I haven't done anything that would give even the slightest chance that I would be with her.
"At this rate the feral rogues will run out before tomorrow." Kane growled. I didn't manage to answer when my eyes found the redhead I was looking for. She seemed to be arguing with a couple of omegas. I marched right up to them.
"Alpha." The omegas quickly bowed when they noticed me and waited to see what will happen.
"Darius!" Brianna squealed with delight and grabbed my hand. I jerked my hand away and Brianna staggered back.
"That's Alpha Darius to you! What the fuck is going on here?" I demanded of her and I noticed how the omegas flinched at my loud voice.
Brianna was glaring at the omegas.
"Well these two here won't do what I tell them to do." She replied arrogantly.
"And why the hell should they obey you?" I asked coldly, trying my best not to snap her neck. She's gotten on my nerves too many times already.
"What do you mean? Alpha, you need a mate and I'm the only one in this pack who is suitable for it. So they must obey the future Luna." She answered.
I growled at her and took a menacing step towards her. Brianna remained still but I could clearly see that she was scared.
"Brianna, I'm going to say this one more time so you better listen carefully. You're not going to command my pack members, you're not going to spread your delusions about becoming Luna anymore because you're never going to be my Luna! Is that clear?"
Brianna pouted and remained silent. Fuck this.
"Is that clear!?" I yelled in my Alpha voice and Brianna dropped her eyes to the ground.
"Yes Alpha."I took a deep breath and looked at the stressed omegas.
"Tell the others that if this happens again, they will come and tell me directly. You can go."
The omegas smiled and bowed. "Thank you Alpha." I didn't even look at Brianna anymore, I marched inside and went straight to my office, slamming the doors.
I sat in my chair and tried to calm my nerves before calling Elder Kelly. After I was calm enough I looked up her number and called.
"Alpha Darius! Nice of you to call so quickly."
"I know you don't like to wait. I hope you don't want to talk about my mate again?"
"Unfortunately I do. Council wants you to either find or choose a mate this year."
"Can't you do anything about it? I haven't heard of other Alphas being bothered like this."
"Sorry Darius but you are no ordinary Alpha. No one has transformed before at 12. Also your wolf is aggressive, Luna will help you to calm down. Look, your mother was my friend but I can't put this off any longer. This is the council's decision."
I scoffed. The council has created common laws for everyone and you can seek advice from them in problematic situations. I think the council is getting too much power if they think they can order people as they want. Before I could give my opinion Kelly continued.
"And one more thing. Alpha Gregor has been in contact with the council due to your lack of cooperation. Call him, set up a meeting and listen to what he has to say. As long as he leaves us alone."
"Fine! As if I had any say in this. Bye." I answered and hung up. I don't care about politeness right now I'm too pissed off.
Alpha Gregor was my father's friend and a terrible Alpha. He doesn't care about anyone but himself and in his pack they treat badly the weaker ones, I don't understand why the council doesn't intervene.
Okay, let's get this done.
