Chapter 26

Darius pov

"Mum?"

I looked at Fionn who looked like he was going to pass out at any moment. He was shaking and his voice sounded like a whisper. But his mother? I thought Alpha Gregor killed his whole family.

"I don't like this." Kane mumbled in my mind and was restless.

"Well I don't know what to think, they're his family. We'll see how it goes." I answered and focused again on the woman who was looking at Fionn tenderly.

A sad smile appeared on her face and her eyes were moist,

"I'm sorry honey I'm not Amara. I'm her twin sister." The woman said wiping her eyes.

The disappointment was noticeable in my mate but he covered it and his sadness quickly as he has always done before. I slowly walked over to his side and wrapped my arms around him. Fionn was still focused on the woman but I know he appreciates my support.

"Aunt Rosette?" Fionn asked and the woman laughed.

"Yes honey you remember me! I'm so happy I found you." Rosette said with a smile.

"How are you here? And please could you let David go?" Fionn said.

"Oh! Sure." Rosette released David who rubbed his neck and moved away from the elves.

"I felt your energy all the way to the elven kingdom. I- I thought you were dead.. We were told your whole family died because of the rogues." Rosette's voice trembled but she took a deep breath and continued.

"I immediately started planning to meet you and now I'm here. I came to get you home, away from these mutts. They already took your mother away from us and I won't let that happen again." She said, her violet eyes filled with contempt.

"She's not going to take away our mate! We have to stop it!" Kane growled and I growled warningly at the elves. I don't care who they are, no one will take my mate away from me!

Before I had time to lash out at them, Fionn raised his hand to my chest. My chest tightened and fear replaced my rage. Does he want to leave me? But my mate surprised me again.

"How dare you speak badly about my family? And my father was a good man and mate, he did everything for my mother's happiness! I will not allow you to speak badly about him or any other member of this pack because of your prejudice. Alpha Darius is my mate and no one is disrespectful to him. And if you forgot I have a wolf too so do you think I'm mutt too?" Fionn challenged his aunt with determination and I couldn't be more proud of him.

Rosette looked at Fionn in surprise until she shook her head with a smile.

"Just like your mother.. You're right I apologize to all of you. My sister's death still weighs heavily on my heart and I let my grudge against werewolves cloud my mind. Your father was a really great man and I liked him from the start. I'm so sorry Fionn for the loss of your family if I had known about you I would have come to you right away. Can we start over and talk calmly somewhere?"

Fionn looked at me and reluctantly I nodded.

"We can go to the packhouse. You are welcome to stay with us as long as you behave respectfully towards the pack members. I will inform the omegas that they will prepare rooms for all of you." I said and walked next to Fionn who was smiling.

"Of course Alpha Darius. Thank you for your hospitality." Rosette bowed and the gesture calmed Kane a little.

My mind was mess and anxiety about my mate's departure was running through my mind. We arrived at the packhouse and the omegas directed our guests to their rooms. Fionn stayed to talk with his aunt in the living room and I myself headed to the kitchen to get a drink.

Suddenly, Hazel appeared out of nowhere.

"Hey Alpha Darius. What's going on here?" She asked looking at the elves. I let out a deep sigh and continued what I was doing.

"They are elves. Fionn's aunt manifested and wants to take him to the elven realm."

Hazel gasped and looked sad.

"Fionn's leaving? Oh no! I haven't spent time with him in a long time. I've just been focusing on my own things and now he's leaving? I'm a bad friend what if-"

"Hazel!" I interrupted the teary-eyed teenager and put my hand on her shoulder.

"We don't know if Fionn is going or not, you're welcome to talk to him. And to be honest, I think he's a little ashamed of what you've been through with him. You're important to him and he's not mad at you. Fionn is glad you're living a normal teenage life and you'll make new friends. It's not your job to take care of him anymore. It should never have been your job." I told her and she suddenly hugged me.

"Thanks Alpha. I'll talk to him as soon as possible." I awkwardly patted her on the back and soon she continued on her way.

"You can't let him go Darius." Kane said seriously.

"I'm not getting ahead of things. We need to talk to Fionn but I'm not going to force him to stay." I replied and closed the link. I told Fionn I was going to my office and then to our room so he could talk to his aunt in peace.

It was already evening when Fionn returned to our apartment and I could immediately read from his gestures where his decision had led. Avoiding eye contact Fionn sat next to me on the bed and it felt like the silence was trying to suffocate me.

"How did it go?" I finally asked, referring to the conversation between him and his aunt.

"Good. I'm just really confused about all this and I don't know what to think.. I mean suddenly it's like I got a part of my mother back and part of her side of the family." Fionn said until he finally looked at me and whispered.

"She wants me to go with them tomorrow.."

My heart dropped and broke. I believe Fionn noticed this and added quickly.

"But I'm not going to leave you! She would like me to move to the elven kingdom but I don't want that. I thought if I went to visit there? Seeing my other relatives. If that works for you?" He asked cautiously. Kane objected but now it's not about us.

"Fionn. You just got out of one kind of prison, I'm not going to put you in new prison. I support you in whatever you want to do. They are your family."

"You are my family." Fionn said with a trembling lip.

I smiled sadly and kissed him.

"There's no need to worry about this now. Would you like to go to dinner with me instead?" I asked, trying to distract us both from the sadness tomorrow would bring.

Fionn wiped his eyes and looked at me gently.

"Always."
