Chapter 22

Darius pov

"I've been replaced by a fucking reindeer!" Kane wailed in my mind.

I rolled my eyes at his dramatic behavior. He's been whining about it for the past two weeks. I watched from afar as Fionn nursed and talked to Kirin. I've never heard of the creature in question, but as long as it doesn't threaten my mate or pack it can be here.

I'm so proud of Fionn, he is so strong. I went back to the moment when he was defending Kirin and some of his elf powers were unleashed in the situation, it was impressive. I wonder what he's really capable of. And when he spoke the elven language, damn it was sexy.

"And now he's hugging it!"

For fucks sake. What happened to my bloodthirsty wolf?

"My mate happened so shut up!" Kane got angry.

I laughed. He is right, Fionn has also changed my life forever. I'm more relaxed and I dare say that I'm happy.

I forced myself to keep going and found Asher making out with Victoria. I grabbed him by the collar and separated them.

"Come on loverboy we have work to do." I said and continued dragging him. Asher tried to protest but I didn't let go. He finally gave up when he heard Victoria giggle at the situation.

"You are so mean. Office work is killing me with its boredom." Asher said collapsing into a chair. I rolled my eyes again. First Kane and now Asher can't I get any peace from whining today?

"You're my beta. It's your job so start pulling yourself together." I said in a perhaps too harsh tone, which Asher noticed immediately.

"Bad day?" He asked.

"No, but tomorrow is Fionn's therapy session again and I don't know how I'll cope if he's down again." I answered and started to work but Asher doesn't understand the hint.

"Are you going to visit-"

"We don't talk about this!" I roared and cut him off. Asher let out a deep sigh.

"I don't think you've chosen the right way to handle this. You should talk to Fionn and-" I growled loudly and Asher covered his mouth.

"What I do and how I take care of things is none of your business. Fionn doesn't need to know, okay?"

"Yes." Asher answered and began to do his work.

I know he's right but Fionn has suffered enough and I need to release my stress and emotions before the familiar rage takes over me. We didn't talk about it anymore and when we were done we went our separate ways. I hope tomorrow will be a good day.

"Faster Asher! You can't even catch a rogue at that rate!" I yelled at him.

"My legs are about to fall off!" Asher cried but increased his speed.

We were doing today's training and at the same time Fionn was with Leah. They decided to have a session outside and chat while taking a walk. I was anxiously waiting for them to be ready.

I watched as Asher finished his running lap and fell to the ground. His breath wheezed and he mumbled how he was about to die.

"Asher get up you big baby-"

A scream of pain cut off my sentence and Asher jumped up. A heart-wrenching scream echoed with the sudden wind.

"It's Fionn.." I managed to whisper before breaking into a run. Despite the training and his complaint Asher kept up with me.

The wind picked up all the time and picked up debris in the air. The screaming continued and my heart broke piece by piece. It was such a raw scream of pain.

"Alpha!" A panicked Leah ran towards us with tears streaming down her face.

"Where is he!?" I asked and Leah knelt on the ground collecting oxygen.

"He- he's in the meadow. I'm so sorry Alpha! I- I pushed him too far asking about his family. The topic is important to his healing b-but I went too far. I'm sorry.. So sorry." Leah mumbled and even though I was angry I felt sorry for her. Her omega nature takes this seriously.

"Asher calm her down and stay here. I'll go to Fionn." I said and quickly continued on my way.

When I arrived at the meadow, I couldn't even see Fionn because he seemed to be in the middle of some kind of whirlwind. I shielded my face with my hands and tried to get closer to him. The debris flying in the air tore at my hands but I didn't care, only Fionn matters.

"Fionn!"

"Little one!" Nothing.

I pushed against the wind and tried to get a little closer.

"FIONN!" I screamed as loud as I could.

The screaming stopped for a moment but the storm just continued. Maybe he finally noticed me.

Suddenly he let out another heartbreaking scream and the storm seemed to explode. A large pressure wave went through the air and I had to close my eyes. Next I staggered back violently and felt hands around me.

I opened my eyes and hugged Fionn who was crying hysterically against my chest. I waited a moment until I loosened my grip on him.

"Little one?"

Fionn raised his tear-soaked face and looked me in the eye. His gaze was so full of pain and sadness that I wanted to cry too.

"He-he killed them. Killed them in front of my eyes and dragged me away! M-my family.." He sobbed. "My m-mom and d-dad.. My unborn sister! My little sister!" Fionn was crying and screaming and all I could do was be there for him.

"I hate him, I hate him so much. They died for nothing! I should have avenged their deaths b-but I just buried the memories of my family and I was never going to let them surface because I'm weak! I'm a bad son and-"

"Hey! Stop that." I said seriously and Fionn looked at me his lip trembling.

"You were a child! You couldn't have done anything against a grown Alpha. Alpha Gregor was a sick bastard and I won't let him affect you anymore. Your family wouldn't want you to think like that." I tried to convince him. Fionn buried his head against my chest and continued to cry.

When there was only quiet sobbing left, he mumbled

"I hate violence, but now I wish I could have avenged their deaths by myself. I miss them so much.."

I let out a deep sigh. "Come with me." I said tensely and we left the meadow. Fionn was confused but didn't ask anything.

"Are you sure Darius?" Kane asked.

"Yes." I answered even though I wasn't sure what was going to happen. Let's hope for the best.

Meanwhile, as Darius and Fionn left the meadow the pressure wave caused by Fionn's emotions traveled through the forests and finally ended up in the forest of the royal elves, which is far from the Moonlight Pack and is well hidden from the rest of the world.

There a woman who was gathering herbs felt a pressure wave and gasped in shock. Her violet eyes widened and filled with tears as she looked in the direction the pressure wave came from and she whispered

"Fionn.."
