Moving to a new school was a little worrying. You had been in Tokyo your whole life, and now your family wants to move out into the country? Yeah, that's going to work out great for your social life! You weren't sure why you really needed to move. You had lived with your mom for years. Your dad had been there with his new girlfriend since you were about ten years old. You didn't hate your dad—you didn't even know the reason your parents had split in the first place. When you were told you had to go with your mom, that was simply it.
Your mom told you that this was for the best—so that you could see your dad again. You didn't care about that. You had friends here, albeit not very many. Somehow you wondered if your mom was tired of dealing with you. You were close with her, but you couldn't understand why else you had to move in with your dad.
Whatever the case was, you had to move. So you packed your things. Your mother tried to talk to you during the ride—it was at least two hours long—but you didn't budge. At some point you just put in headphones and stopped listening to her entirely. You were pretty sure she stopped a little after that.
When you finally made it, the house was much bigger than the one your mom had. It was a little frightening for a moment. There was no way this was your dad's house! What kind of job did your dad even have?
Two people walked out of the house with wide smiles. One you recognised as your dad. He didn't look all that different from when you were younger, but he had started to grow out some facial hair. It either wasn't going well or he had just shaved, because it wasn't very long.
The other was a woman, who must have been his girlfriend. She was taller than your dad was by a fair amount. On top of that she was well dressed, to the point that you almost thought everyone else should have dressed better. Her clothes were loose around her, so you didn't get a perfect idea of her frame, but she looked to be a little broader than you. Her hair was jet black and in perfect coils. It looked like she had stepped out of a business meeting to greet you, and it frankly made you feel a little awkward.
The clicking of the car's door is what finally made you move again. Your mom gave you a reassuring smile before climbing out of the car. You followed her slowly.
"Y/n!" Your dad called as he walked over. "It's good to finally see you."
"Hi, Dad..." you muttered. You couldn't really look at him or the woman next to him. She didn't appear disdainful in anyway. In fact, she seemed enthusiastic to meet you.
"So this is Y/n!" She said. She bowed to you a little. "My name is Ume. It's nice to meet you."
You looked at your mom, who was distracted with getting your luggage. You bowed a little. "Nice to meet you too."
"I'm glad you'll be staying with us," Ume told you. "I just moved here too, so we can get used to the countryside together!"
You nodded. "I...look forward to it."
Your parents ushered you and Ume inside the house. The inside was just as modern as the outside looked. The foyer—and apparently most of the house—was spacious. There were minimalistic decarations—the walls were mostly bare except for the occasional painting. Plants were scattered around some of the corners. The whole house actually looked brand new.
"Wow, D/n," your mother said. "The house looks wonderful."
"It was just finished a couple weeks ago," he told her. "Ume handled the decorating. I would have asked you to help, Y/n, but I didn't have a way to talk to you. Your mother told me you were into design."
