Though you were spacing out in your thoughts, you still held yourself together to help the boys before their interhigh prelims. Your brother, Hanamaki, and Matsukawa were the first three to pick up on your melancholy attitude first.
"Hey, Y/n," Hajime said, catching your attention as you grabbed a ball that had been thrown out off the court. You looked back up at him with a strained smile, pulling the ball so it rested against your stomach.
"What's up, guys?" You asked. "Did you need water? Or—"
"Hey, you should rest a little," Hanamaki said.
You stiffened. "What...what do you mean?"
"You're running yourself ragged right now," Matsukawa said. "You look tired. At least get some sleep when you get home."
You looked at the ground. "I just...wanted to make sure you guys were ready for the prelims," you lied weakly.
Hajime narrowed his eyes at you. "Is this because of what I said earlier?"
You bit your cheek. You didn't want to tell Hajime that his comments may have made this worse. You always had your work cut out for you when it came time for a tournament. Whether it was purely making sure Oikawa didn't overwork himself or helping out the rest of the team, you ran yourself around the gym until your legs gave out every time. You enjoyed helping the team, so normally it wasn't a big deal to you. But now you were trying to take your mind off of the things you were worrying about.
"What'd you say earlier?" Hanamaki asked your brother quietly.
"I said something about her having a thing for Oikawa," he whispered back.
Your ears got warm when you heard that. Hanamaki and Matsukawa made noises of realisation, then they looked at you.
"Don't you like Oikawa?" Matsukawa asked.
"I...no," you said. "He's just my friend."
"She also knows you made bets..." Hajime muttered.
You were too lost in your thoughts to care about that at the moment, but you did plan on getting those guys back for that. You'd been trying your best not to look at Oikawa, because everytime you did after Hajime pointed out everyone's assumptions, your heart did a little flip in your chest.
Oikawa was very attractive, and you did really enjoy having him around to talk to. Even if you teased him too much sometimes, he was really important to you. You just...could probably stand to tell him more. His ego didn't bother you—and he only had one sometimes, a lot of the time you found him very self conscious—neither did the fact that he got clingy when he was sad. You didn't mind having to make sure Oikawa was taking care of himself, since he always tried his best to help you when you needed him too.
The only reason you were trying denying this crush was because you were sure that he didn't feel the same way about you. He had so many fangirls that, in your mind, would make him happier if he were to date them. You knew that Oikawa didn't look at you as anything other than his friend. So you forced yourself to be okay with that. Because you really just wanted Oikawa happy.
