You had met Goshiki by pure accident, but it couldn't have worked out any better. The two of you were instantly best friends the day you saw each other at Shiratorizawa middle school. The two of you had, surprisingly enough, met at a volleyball game for the high school of the same name. You were a setter for the girl's team, although you were very normally confused as a Libero since you were much shorter than the other people in your year. But you had a lot of talent, according to all of your coaches. So you trusted yourself and became a setter. The girls team wasn't as popular as the boys, but you were all still definitely a powerhouse. So being the setter made you feel...proud in some way.
You were the one in control of the plays! You were the one who held the team together!
Your older brother had played on Shiratorizawa Academy's team as the ace. He was a third year, while you were a first year in middle school. None of your friends cared much about the games, so you typically had to go with your family. They never really came to any of your activities, though. It made you feel a little...inadiquate.
You met Goshiki at one such game.
Your family had come to the game with you. You had moved to the very front of the bleachers to watch your brother closer. You were cheering as loud as you possibly could for him, though you doubted he heard you, anyway. Your family was up with the rest of the cheering squad. You normally stayed down there to see better, but it did get kind of lonely.
"What're you doing down here?" Someone asked. You turned around to find a boy your age. He had short black hair that he had cut in a bowl cut. His large brown eyes studied you for a moment. "Why wouldn't you want to be in the cheering squad? You can see better from there."
You had, admittedly, been a little too short to see over the railing. But you wanted your brother to hear you as much as you wanted to see, so you managed. You had been to a lot of games and had never really been tall enough to see over before, so you may have been a little excited. Being next to you parents during these games meant comments about how much better Eiji was doing at your age. You doubted there was that much difference between you and Eiji, but it didn't quite matter.
"I...wanted my brother to hear me cheering for him," you told the boy. "My parents are so far in the back there was no way unless I came up here."
"Oh...I guess that makes sense..." he said, before your statement sunk in. "Wait! Your brother plays on the team?"
You nodded. "Yeah."
"Who's your brother?" The kid was extremely excited, it almost overwhelmed you. He seemed like a nice enough boy, though, so you decided not to just flat out turn him away.
"L/n Eiji," you told him.
"Woah! Your brother is the ace? That's so cool!" He shouted. "Do you play too?"
You looked back out at the court, then you nodded slowly. "I play setter though," you said quickly.
"Do you ever play with your brother?" He asked.
You shook your head. "Eiji is always practicing here with the rest of his team...but it's okay! I just practice with the rest of my team and on my own."
"That sound lonely..."
You shrugged. "I don't mind. I like practicing that way. Do you play?"
He nodded. "I play a wing spiker! I'm going to be the ace one day!"
"Really?" You asked. He wasn't exactly the tallest player, though that didn't mean anything in middle school. His arms and legs were pretty wiry too. You looked back out at the high schoolers. Would this kid really look like that someday? "Good luck then."
