When you left your parents house, you didn't really have any plans on going back. Life works in mysterious ways, though, right?
You had moved away to escape your parents neglect when you were a third year in middle school. Your best friend, Shino, and his family had taken you in. Your parents never tried to contact you, at least not to your knowledge. You didn't have any siblings, so it wasn't like they really needed you there. You did some of the house work, but mostly you were left on your own.
It felt strange when you'd first moved. Shino's family showered you with affection. You didn't like it at first, and all of them understood. They tried to be patient, but even after years it was still a little strange.
You wished now that you had let them show you more affection.
You wondered what you had done to deserve to be the only one who made it out of that car. Shino's family had been so good to you, but they were all gone now.
Shino and his mother had been on the drivers side when the truck collided with the car. They died instantly on impact. You and his father had been severely injured, but he bled out in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. You barely managed to pull through. You had been in a coma for several months before you finally woke up.
You didn't know how it worked out this way. You didn't understand how you had managed to survive. That wasn't really what mattered though. Because the only people you had left to go to were your parents. Shino was your only friend in middle school, and even if he wasn't, you doubted anyone would take you in.
Your parents hardly greeted you when you got home. They told you it was good to have you back and that they would give you some time to adjust. Honestly, you were surprised they even realised you had been gone. It wasn't like you hadn't told them, but it still surprised you.
You were once again left alone. You had the whole summer before high school started. Your third year, as surprising it was. You only had a little time before you could leave. You guessed you could leave now. Run away and live on some street near your school. It wouldn't really help you, though.
School started all too fast for you. Shino had lived in a different prefecture, so you had to start a whole new school. You didn't know if anyone from your middle school had came here. But, you doubted that mattered. When you and Shino still lived in this area, the only real friend you had was him. He had several people he knew, though. Maybe they would be here.
You walked into your classroom a little early. Eyes followed you as you moved. You still looked rough from the accident. Most of your worst wounds had scarred over, but the look of them probably still threw people off. Your hair had to be cut after the accident, since a lot of it got dirty and stayed pretty matted after you got hurt.
You walked to an empty seat and sat in it.
"Who's that?"
"Do you think she's a delinquent?"
"She looks like a criminal!"
"Why did she have to be in this class?"
You shouldn't have been surprised. Your hands gripped the hem of your skirt tightly. You looked awful. You felt awful. Why couldn't Shino have made it out? Why did you have to come here? Why did you even—?
