After looking at the paintings, you headed outside with Bucky, Steve, Alpine and Tibbs to go back to your side of the balcony. Steve headed inside briefly to put a blanket on the swing since the early summer sun was beating down on it. You let Tibbs down to play on his own. Steve came back out with the blanket and set it down and you sat down on it.
"Hey guys" Sam came out onto his balcony with Jillian behind him.
"You must be sweating," Jillian looked at you. She was wearing a pair of shorts with a t-shirt.
"A little bit. I was thinking of going inside and putting on a pair of shorts, but I like the shirt" you grinned.
"I'll help" Steve offered immediately.
"No way Romeo, you stay here. She can live a minute without you" Bucky stopped him. You giggled and headed inside, and went into the closet. You changed into a pair of jean shorts and came back out to see that Jillian had taken a seat on the swing while waiting for you. You sat down beside her and spied a hickey under some makeup on her neck and giggled softly. She looked at you with questions in her eyes and you just gestured to your own neck that was undoubtedly covered as well. You just hadn't bothered with makeup. She flushed and shrugged and gave a bashful smile.
"I finished Her Saint and His Sinner by Harmony West" you told her. "Amazing. What else do you have for me?" you asked her.
"No one has to know by Carin Hart" she thought about it for a moment before answering. "Another dark romance" she giggled.
"Sounds good to me. I think I have it downstairs" you mused.
"Wanna go check?" she asked, and you knew this was more for girl talk.
"Sure! Maybe you can borrow from me again" you quickly agreed.
"Leaving so soon, dove?" Steve looked worried.
"Just going to get a book or two," you assured him.
"Baby girl, you're leaving me?" Sam asked, looking worried as well.
"I'll be back big man, you'll have me to yourself soon. Enjoy your guy talk" she winked at him.
"I have a feeling they are going for girl talk" Bucky chuckled. You took Jillian's hand and led her through Steve's suite to go out to the hallway. Tibbs decided to stay in the sun and sunbathe beside Alpine.
You both took the elevator to go to the main floor and you went into your apartment and Jillian exhaled as soon as the door was closed.
"Girl!" she said, a little upbeat.
"Everything you hoped for?" you giggled as you went to one of your bookcases.
"Oof, much more than I hoped for" she giggled as well. "He's well... blessed" she winked.
"Tell me about it" you laughed. "I think it's an Avenger thing. Maybe it's in their water."
"He had my legs shaking. I'm actually sad I have to go back to my apartment tonight" she pouted.
"You have next weekend too" you smiled.
"Yes, he asked me to come back next weekend too already. I can't wait. And you... you gotta spill. How is the temporary living arrangement?" she asked hopefully.
"It's actually going really well. I'm enjoying it" you smiled. "He's absolutely perfect, I wouldn't want it any other way. I might actually take the leap and move in with him if this keeps up" you blushed. "My brother might lose his mind over that though" you laughed. "He really would be on the next flight out to meet Steve for himself," you added.
"Maybe he can bring Emily for Bucky to finally meet" she sang.
"If he thinks of it. He probably will though, we both adore her. She's a huge advocate for people who are enhanced, mutants, and of course the Avengers. God knows she's been blogging about it for years" you rolled your eyes.
"Does she still blog?" Jillian asked worriedly.
"No, she stopped the moment she started talking to Bucky. She adores him" you shook your head and looked at your books. You found the one Jillian suggested and pulled it out along with a few more books for the week. Steve seems to be enjoying playing civilian, so you had a feeling more quiet nights were in your future.
"Can I borrow these?" she asked, picking out a few of her own. "I'll bring them back as soon as I'm done" she promised.
"Of course" you nodded. "Are you ready to head back?" you asked her.
"I think so. I want a little extra time with Sam" she nodded. You both carried your books to the door and you locked it up as you walked out.
"There's my girl" Sam cooed as soon as Jillian appeared in the doorway when you got back upstairs. She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and went to sit down. You came out and Steve patted his lap expectantly. You sat on one of his thighs, holding only one book in your hand, the others you had stopped briefly to leave in the living room on the table.
"What's this one about?" Steve asked you.
"A cop who takes a woman captive" you scanned the back. "It's gotta be good if Jillian recommended it" you smiled.
"You want to be taken captive?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.
"Its cliterature," you giggled and Bucky barked a laugh while Steve looked at you with need. "I don't want it to happen to me, but I am going to enjoy reading about it" you kissed his cheek. "How was the guy talk?" you asked him.
"I'm almost sick with how perfect you two sound" Bucky announced.
"They are biased," you reminded him.
"I don't think so," Steve shook his head.
"I doubt that very much" Sam added.
"I have flaws," Jillian offered. "None that I want Sam to know about," she giggled.
"I don't see flaws baby girl" Sam shook his head. "I see a lot of things, and know more than you think" he winked.
"I snore" you offered.
"It's cute. So does Tibbs" Steve shrugged like it was no big deal.
"I snore too," Jillian giggled. "Don't feel bad," she shook her head.
Your phone pinged and it was Eric. You looked at the screen, and froze for a moment. It just said call me.
"Excuse me" you got off Steve's lap and went into the apartment after closing the door behind you. You called Eric and paced in the living room.
"Hey baby sister" Eric came on the phone.
"Is something wrong?" you asked worriedly.
"Yes. You've been avoiding my calls for over a week and I figured this was the only way to get your attention. What if there had been a family emergency?" he asked you, giving you a bit of sass.
"Sorry, I was just in a bad place. I'm better now" you assured him.
"Mom and pops said to stop sending money, we are good now. All the bills are paid off and product is shipped out. We even have some new equipment" he had a smile in his voice.
"That's fantastic news" you sighed happily. "I can still send money home for the animals too and to help with the mortgage" you told him.
"That's been paid off too, by someone anonymous" he advised. "Everything we make from here on out is gravy. We have enough to get by for the whole season and then some, and that crops already a guaranteed sale" he barked a laugh. "I don't know what strings you pulled, but thank you. You really came through for us" he sighed.
"I guess I'll start saving up" you said in a soft voice.
"It's best you do, you never know. Maybe you'll want to come home one day" he teased.
"You know how I feel about living here" you whispered.
"Yeah, and I know I won't change your mind either" he sighed.
"Tony told me a bit ago he bought everything the family had left to sell" you sat down. "I guess I thought it was too good to be true" you admitted.
"It's not. He did. We don't know who paid off the mortgage though" he told you. "Wouldn't Tony tell you?" he asked.
"More than likely, he's not one to hold back" you giggled. "Does this mean you're coming for a visit?"
"I'll do you one better. I'm planning a trip, just waiting on Emily's passport to come in to book the tickets. Should be here sometime soon to be honest. We have some seasonal workers helping in the fields and with the animals, so I'm not too worried about leaving" Eric admitted. "Emily has been on my back about coming to meet Bucky for real. They talk a lot"
"It's a good thing" you sighed happily. "She's had a crush on him a long time, and he's honestly a really great guy," you told him.
"You're biased" he huffed.
"Honest" you swore. "He's a gentleman," you advised.
"And what about Steve?" he asked.
"To the core. He takes really good care of me" you smiled. "He's even trying to get me to move in with him."
"Are you sure you're ready for that?" He seemed curious.
"I think I am," you nodded. "I really love him, and he's so good to me" you confided.
"As long as he don't break your heart, I won't have to break his perfect face" he said a little darkly.
"Eric" you said in warning.
"What? I'm two minutes older, you should be used to this by now" he chastised. "And he better be better than the last one too" he said.
"He is, a billion times better. And I love him with all my heart and soul" you said with passion.
"Alright, I'll let you get back. I love you" Eric said.
"I love you too" you said and hung up. You looked up and saw Steve was looking in worriedly. You got up and went out to him and kissed him softly on the lips. Your decision was made. You would move in with him. He hummed and pulled you in more, and you giggled. "I'll tell you later" you winked at him, pulling back and heading to sit with Jillian.
