The trip to the cafe to get a strawberry lemonade and a piece of coconut cream pie was fantastic. You knew a lot of people from town were already talking, considering no matter what you did, Steve was always touching you. It was endearing, and a wonderful reminder that he would always be there for you. You didn't even have to say you wanted something, he was handing it to you. It was like he could read you like a book. Your parents pummeled Steve with questions, and he spoke openly about how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you, and how he's already working on a more permanent home so he can retire and help with the kids while you work if you wanted to. He admitted to having more money than what he knew what to do with, and had been needing the right reason to step down from the Captain America podium and have someone else take his place so he can enjoy life with his family. You tried to argue, but he squeezed your hand and told you that he was just being honest. After your lunchtime snack you and your mom walked to the small bookstore in town while your dad and Steve broke off to go pick up supper for everyone. You knew Eric was probably busy with the farm chores, but you hoped Emily went to help him as well as Bucky maybe. At least that way tonight, there would be time to hang out as a family before you left in the morning. There was a lot to prepare for when you got home, since you'll be headed to Malibu and Steve on a mission as of Monday.
When you went into the little bookstore you saw a few books you didn't have yet that looked interesting. You read the backs of them carefully, and your mom chuckled.
"Don't make me go get Steve. Get them all if you want to" she told you.
"I can't do that mom" you giggled.
"I'll tell you a secret. Steve handed me his black card and said to make sure we bought every book you touched. So I'll just pick them as you look at them," she grinned. You giggled and grabbed a book on Kama Sutra and your mom chuckled.
"He did the same thing on one of our dates, only he got Pietro to grab the books as I looked at them. You should have seen the size of the bookstore! It was amazing" you sighed happily.. "I'd go again in a heartbeat"
"Maybe next time I'll join you. I like a few romance novels too, you know" she said softly.
"We should grab a few books for you too" you said in a moment of inspiration. You went to the more themed romance novels that your mom used to call the bodice rippers. You picked out some of her favorite authors and paid for them with your own credit card. Your mom bought the armful of books that you had liked before the pair of you went back to the car. You had barely reached the family car when you heard a whistle and you turned around to glare. You mom huffed and crossed her arms. It was one of your childhood bullies, a boy named Jeremy. He had grown up, but he obviously hadn't lost the worst parts of himself.
"As I live and breathe, look at you Y/N" he stood with his arms crossed and looking you up and down. "I don't see no ring on that finger, you planning to bring some bastards in the world?" he asked. Your face went red with rage and your mom looked like she was about to smack him silly when someone cleared their throat and you looked to the side seeing Steve, and his face was contorted in rage.
"Run that by me again son?" Steve said through clenched teeth. "What did you say to my future wife?" he demanded.
"I asked a simple question" Jeremy had backed up a little.
"Y/N, what's his name?" Steve asked you, not taking his eyes off of Jeremy.
"Jeremy" you said, not giving his last name in case Steve was about to lose his shit.
"Jeremy... I'm going to give you to the count of three to get your eyes off my woman, and to start walking or else there will be consequences" Steve warned him. Jeremy squirmed a little.
"One" your dad said, starting the count down. "Two..." he trailed off and Jeremy hightailed it away.
'Baby, are you okay?" Steve asked you.
"Yes, I'm fine. I'm used to bullies" you told him.
"You will not be bullied as long as I live and breathe," he wrapped his arms around you after setting his bags on the trunk of the sedan your parents had driven you into town with..
"You said future wife" you said with tears in your eyes. "Did you mean it?" you asked.
"I told him if he hurts you, I'll find a way to hurt him and no one would find the body... but he has my permission" your dad said with a smile on his face. You squealed, feeling giddy and wrapped your arms around Steve and he picked you up with a bit of laughter.
"Did you want another drink from the cafe before we go home?" your mom asked, already knowing the answer. "We will take the drive through" she advised.
"Thank you" you said as Steve kissed you hard on the lips before he put you down and helped you back into the back of the car and buckled you in before running around to his own side.
"Something smells delicious" your brother Eric hummed in delight as you got out of the car and your dad already had half the bags. Eric came down to bring in the food. Steve helped you out of the car and then grabbed your bag of books with a large grin on his face. He went and put them into the back of the SUV, already knowing that you wouldn't have much time to read. "Damn, how much did you get?" Eric asked, the bags large and stretching towards the ground.
"Six family sized poutines and fourteen large donairs. If we run out we have plenty more in the fridge to whip up" your dad answered.
"We ran into one of those bullies you two grew up with," your mom advised.
"Jeremy never grew up, the bastard. I'm going to punch him next time I see him" Eric growled.
"No, he'd go to the cops first without question" your mom told him, then quickly added. "Don't you dare use your powers either."
"Spoil sport" he grumbled.
When you walked into the house Emily and Bucky were cuddled up to each other with Libby and Tibbs. Molly was likely upstairs in your room again.
"Did you get everything done?" you asked Eric.
"Yeah, Bucky and Emily helped out quite a bit, and the vet came by. Everyone's up to date on their needles so they are free and clear to cross the border" Eric grinned.
"Thank you, you two" you said the Bucky and Emily who had a kiss mark on the side of her neck and wasn't moving to hide it either. You giggled and nodded before leaving the room and heading into the kitchen to help set the table. Steve's strong arms wrapped around you and he pulled you in, holding you tightly.
"Sit, dove. We still don't know what's wrong" he murmured into your ear. You nodded and took a seat at the table while Steve set the table with your mom and your dad and Eric put the food out. It looked like too much for seven people to eat. Your mouth was watering at the idea of the food in front of you.
"I snuck in a strawberry cheesecake for you, princess" your dad showed you, while he was putting it in the fridge. You did a happy dance in your chair. Everything just felt exhausting today. Even that small dance made you feel tired. Steve came over and kissed your temple then touched your forehead to check for a fever.
"Maybe we should go with lighter foods for you, dove," Steve suggested and you gave him the evil eye and Eric barked a laugh.
"You just put yourself in the dog house buddy" Eric grabbed a seat on one side of you. "Never come between her, and her favorite foods."
"Noted" Steve chuckled. "I'm sorry dove, we will eat this feast and have dessert."
"You're forgiven, but no kisses" you told him.
"Kisses like these?" Steve started kissing you all over your face and you broke out into giggles before he sat down on the other side of you with a victorious smile on his face. You had to admit, he knew how to pull you out of a sour mood. Your mom, dad, Bucky, and Emily took their seats and you all started putting food into your plates. Bucky and Steve didn't seem to understand what they were doing at first with the poutine, but at first bite they both moaned almost pornographically.
"We need to bring the cheese you make this with home with us" Steve said after finishing his first bite.
"We can stop at the co-op to pick some up. They sometimes have big bags there" you smiled happily and continued eating. You grabbed your donair and bit into it. The sweet but savory treat was perfect in your mind. Steve took one and he moaned again after taking a large bite.
"Buck, you gotta try this. It's sweet, but meaty and spicy" Steve told him. Bucky did as he suggested and hummed happily.
"I wish we had these in New York" Bucky pouted once he was done his entire donair.
"Have another, we bought two each" your mom prompted him.
"Thank you Franny" Bucky grabbed a second one, and so did Steve.
"Thank you Franny and Luke. This is amazing" Steve said quickly.
"You bought it kid" Luke teased him.
"Without you we wouldn't have gotten it" he replied back quickly.
"Then you're welcome" Luke gave a small smile.
"Are you going out to the barn after supper?" Steve asked you, leaning into you a bit.
"Yes, I like to spend time with all the animals. Besides, its Libby and Molly's last day with their siblings before we take them home" you said with a soft smile on your face. You saw in the corner of your eye that Tibbs was practically in a food coma in his corner of the room, laying on his back with his paws splayed out. You giggled, and shook your head.
"Eric, have you been giving Tibbs extra treats again?" you asked him.
"Maybe" he smirked.
"You spoil him" you shook your head with a light laugh, your hair moving with you.
"Just think what I'll do to your kids" he winked at you.
"I think everyone back at the compound will be ahead of you on that one" you rubbed your stomach absentmindedly. You finished half of your second donair and gave the rest to Steve who happily ate it all. The rest of supper went with quiet conversation and everyone seemed pleased with themselves. There was some leftover poutine, but Bucky announced he'd probably eat it during the night if he could. You knew Emily was thinking that she had something else he could eat.
