Two of hearts22
___
Sitting in the booth of the diner, Y/n couldn't help but feel like a stranger amid her newfound companions. Their easy banter and shared laughter created an atmosphere of familiarity, a world she didn't quite belong to. Her hands, still wrapped in bandages, rested awkwardly in her lap as she looked down, feeling a mix of gratitude and discomfort.
Mirio, Nejire, and Amajiki carried on with animated conversations, each displaying a unique charm that reflected their personalities. The clatter of dishes and the hum of chatter around them formed a backdrop to the camaraderie, accentuating Y/n's sense of being on the outskirts.
Though Mirio had warmly invited her, Y/n couldn't shake the feeling of being an intruder, someone who stumbled into a scene where she didn't quite fit. She appreciated their kindness but couldn't fully immerse herself in their interactions. Her eyes occasionally flickered up, trying to follow the threads of conversation, but she felt like an outsider in their shared world.
Mirio couldn't help but notice Y/n's discomfort. Her eyes downcast and hands fidgeting in her lap, she seemed like a lone island amidst the lively chatter. Determined to make her feel more at ease, he shifted his attention toward her.
"So, Y/n, how's your first year at UA going so far? Any interesting stories or moments you'd like to share?" Mirio asked, a warm and welcoming smile on his face. He hoped to draw her into the conversation, allowing her to share a bit about herself and perhaps feel less like an outsider.
Y/n looked up, meeting Mirio's gaze. The sincerity in his eyes made her feel a bit more reassured, prompting her to offer a tentative smile. "It's been alright, I guess. Lots of pressure."
Mirio nodded understandingly, his friendly demeanour encouraging Y/n to open up a bit more. "Pressure is part of the hero's journey, for sure. But don't worry, we've all been through it. You'll find your rhythm and get used to the pace. Any particular subjects or aspects giving you a hard time?"
Y/n hesitated for a moment before responding, "Well, combat training has been challenging, especially after the sports festival. It made me realise I have a lot to work on."
Nejire leaned forward with an empathetic smile, "Oh, I remember my first year at UA! It's a whirlwind of excitement and challenges. Combat training can be tough, but it's where you'll see some of the most significant growth. The first-year jitters are completely normal, trust me. You'll find your strengths and develop your own unique style. Just give it some time!"
Amajiki, who had been quietly sipping his drink, nodded in agreement.
Mirio chimed in, "And now you've got us to help out! If you ever need advice or someone to practice with, just let us know." He grinned, leaning forward on the table with his elbows.
A small smile found its way onto Y/n's lips at his words. For the first time that evening, she felt welcome.
As the conversation flowed, Y/n found herself becoming more at ease with her new companions. Nejire leaned back, scanning Y/n with curiosity. "So, who's your homeroom teacher?"
Y/n hesitated for a moment before answering, "Aizawa."
The table collectively winced, and Amajiki muttered, "...Tough break."
"Aizawa's known for expelling people left and right! How're you managing it?" Nejire asked.
Y/n shook her head, surprising them with her response. "Actually, he's been pretty helpful. Especially in our one-on-one training sessions.
