Two of hearts50
___
Y/n and Mirio slipped into the third-year dorms, the hallway dimly lit by a few scattered lamps. Y/n couldn't help but glance nervously around, her breath coming in shallow, painful bursts as they quietly crept towards Mirio's room. Every step sent sharp jolts through her body, the pain in her lungs flaring up with each breath she took. Her broken rib made even the smallest movement uncomfortable, the painkillers she had been dosed with earlier already starting to wear off. Still, she did her best to mask the discomfort, not wanting to worry him.
Mirio unlocked the door to his dorm, holding it open for her as he gave her a reassuring smile. His presence was calm and steady, but Y/n still felt out of place, especially considering how ragged she looked. She hesitated for a moment before stepping inside, glancing down at her sore, bare feet. They were red and raw from walking on the cold pavement for hours, every step pressing sharp stones into her skin. She shivered slightly from the cold, her exhaustion palpable in every movement.
Mirio's dorm was simple, with posters of All Might and a few other heroes decorating the walls. His bed was neatly made, and the small desk in the corner was cluttered with papers and textbooks. The space felt warm, lived in. It made Y/n feel strangely out of place, a stark contrast to the sterile infirmary she had just escaped from and the suffocating presence of Scorchrend Tower.
"Here, sit down," Mirio said softly, gesturing to his bed. Y/n nodded gratefully, making her way over to the edge of the bed and gingerly sitting down. She winced as she moved, her body protesting the effort. The burning in her lungs intensified, and she forced herself to take shallow breaths, trying not to aggravate the pain further.
Mirio noticed her discomfort immediately. "Are you okay?" he asked, concern lacing his voice as he knelt in front of her. His warm, kind eyes searched hers, but she just gave him a small, tired smile.
"I'll be fine," Y/n whispered, though even speaking felt like an effort. She shifted slightly, trying to get comfortable, but her broken rib made it impossible. "Just... sore. The walk was longer than I expected."
Mirio frowned, clearly not buying her attempt at downplaying the pain. He quickly stood up, rummaging through his closet for a moment before returning with a neatly folded pile of clothes in his arms. "Here," he said, holding out the bundle. "You can wear these. It'll help you feel more comfortable, and..." He glanced down at her bare feet, noticing how red and raw they were. "You can borrow my socks too. It's too cold for you to be walking around barefoot."
Y/n looked at the clothes in his hands, hesitating. She felt out of place, awkward, like she didn't deserve his kindness, especially after everything she had put herself through. "I don't want to be a burden," she said quietly, glancing away from him, her fingers nervously fiddling with the edge of her shirt.
Mirio's eyes softened at her words. He took a seat next to her on the bed, placing the clothes down beside her. "You're not a burden, Y/n," he said gently. "You've been through a lot. You deserve to be comfortable, especially after everything you've been through today."
Y/n bit her lip, unsure. She didn't want to take advantage of his kindness, but her body ached, and the thought of slipping into something more comfortable was tempting, especially since her current clothes were worn and dirty from her long journey.
"Really, don't feel awkward," Mirio continued, his tone sincere. "You're safe here. Just relax, okay? No one's going to bother you."
Y/n nodded slowly, finally accepting the clothes. She could feel Mirio's genuine concern, and it made her heart soften. Despite how out of place she felt, she couldn't deny how safe his presence made her feel. Mirio wasn't pushing her or asking questions she didn't want to answer. He was just... there, offering her a kindness she hadn't felt in a long time.
