CHAPTER 23 THE PROPOSITION

Since the day John took Michelle with him in their rehearsal, the girl has always watched the young man in his practice whenever she was free. Kryztal and Kryzel don't know about this, which is why Michelle feels very guilty.

Also because of Kryztal's desire to have Michelle monitor John's activities, Michelle always finds time to see John. Secretly, Michelle's love for the young man is getting stronger.

One day, John took Michelle to the school canteen for a snack. The preliminary examination was coming up that day.

"Michelle, I don't know if I should be asking you this but aren't you afraid that we might be mistaken for sweethearts?" John asked Michelle casually.

Michelle didn't answer right away. Her face turned red because she didn't know what to say.

"It's okay with me. I don't know about you!" Michelle answered somewhat awkwardly.

"It looks like you and Kryztal are close, but I think Kryztal might be jealous if she thought that we're sweethearts. I knew she likes me but she's too young to feel that way!" John said while looking into Michelle's eyes.

"Why would she be jealous?" Michelle asked curiously.

"Nothing. Anyway, forget what I said. I hope you and Kryzel and Kryztal can watch our concert before I graduate this semester!" John said mysteriously.

"Of course John! We're sure we'll be there!" Michelle smiled at John.

Deep inside Michelle's heart, how she wishes that John will ask her to be his girlfriend. But the girl didn't know that that time would never come.

In Dagupan City.....

Mae has been working as Mateo's personal secretary for almost a week, but her work is very little and mostly she has nothing to do in Mateo's office. Mateo's wife was abroad at that time so he was often in Pangasinan.

One night Mrs. Nancy and Mae were surprised when Mateo suddenly came to the house.

"Mrs. Nancy, I'm going to sleep here for now. Please just get my room ready." Mateo said.

"Did you and Aiza quarrel again? She's already abroad but she's still pestering you!" Mrs. Nancy asked concerned.

"There's nothing new, right?" Mateo said sadly.

Mrs. Nancy shook her head as she entered the room to prepare it. Mae overheard the conversation between the two so she knew her boss had a problem.

"Sir, I have finished the documents you asked me." Mae said shyly.

"Mae, how is your mother? How is your work?" Mateo asked.

"She's okay. She is recovering." Mae answered.

Mateo didn't answer. It is obvious from his appearance that he's got problem. Mae couldn't help but ask this.

"Do you have a problem sir? Maybe I can help you somehow." Mae asked shyly.

Mateo looked at Mae and smiled.

"You know, just seeing you happy and without problems makes me happy." Mateo joked.

"You're joking sir!" Mae smiled.

"No joke. I am happy now that I know that you have not returned to stripping. Remember, it's not money that makes people happy, it's love." Mateo said sadly.

"Why sir?" Mae asked curiously.

"You know Mae, I am an orphan and have neither siblings nor other relatives. My married life is very miserable because I stupidly agreed to marry my wife in exchange for wealth. Now I feel like a slave, a prisoner and a robot without freedom." Mateo said sadly.
