Karla smiled at Marco. Although she knew he could play musical instruments and he knew she had once worked as an events singer, they never really had the chance to perform together. This would be their first impromptu duet.
Karla felt a quiet thrill when Marco offered to accompany her on the piano, she had always imagined what it would be like to share music with him. Hand in hand, they walked to the front, and the guests broke into loud applause as the two took their places.
Marco began playing the intro to Just Give Me a Reason by Pink. Karla drew in a steady breath before singing the opening line, her eyes fixed on Marco as if the words were meant only for him.
Marco was captivated, not just by her angelic voice but also by the way she looked at him while she sang.
Every lyric seemed to echo the feelings in Karla's heart.
"Right from the start
You were a thief
You stole my heart
And I'm your willing victim
I let you see the parts of me
That wasn't all that pretty
And with every touch you fixed them"
The guests were impressed by Karla's beautiful voice and after Karla sang her part, Marco began to sing the male part of the song.
"I'm sorry, I don't understand
Where all of this is coming from
I thought that we were fine
Your head is running wild again
My dear we still have everything
And it's all in your mind"
Karla smiled when she heard Marco sing. The man is really talented. Karla was even more impressed. A loud applause could be heard from those present as their voices blended into the chorus of the song:
Just give me a reason just a little bit's enough
Just a second we're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again
I never stopped you're still written in the scars on my heart
You're not broken just bent and we can learn to love again
The crowd rose to their feet, clapping and cheering when the two finished their song. Marco and Karla smiled at each other, their eyes locked in a way that made it clear—they were already falling in love.
Suddenly, someone from the audience shouted, "Kiss!"
Another voice followed, "Kiss her!"
Marco only smiled and turned toward Karla. Slowly, he leaned in and pressed his lips gently against hers.
Karla froze for a moment, stunned by his boldness, but her heart swelled with happiness. It wasn't her first kiss, yet somehow it felt as if it was. The sensation was so intense that it reminded her of kissing John—like a memory repeating itself.
Without realizing it, she kissed Marco back. Only when the room erupted into cheers did she snap back to reality. They exchanged a shy look, then returned to their seats, holding hands as if they couldn't let go.
When the meeting finally ended, Marco and Karla left the venue together, walking out arm in arm.
Neither of them knew that a single line from the song they had performed would leave an imprint on their future.
