I COULD HEAR Jungwon sigh softly before he walked around to the other side of the bed, positioning himself directly across from me. Our eyes met, and a moment of silent communication passed between us. His expression bore a hint of amusement, adding a playful glint to his gaze.
"Jurin," Jungwon said simply, leaning in slightly towards me. "Are you jealous?" He posed the question with a proud smirk adorning his features.
My brow furrowed in response, and I gently nudged him away. "Why would I be jealous?" I questioned, sitting up more upright. The truth was, I wasn't entirely sure of my own emotions. Even if a hint of jealousy lingered within me, I was determined not to grant him the satisfaction of admitting it.
A melodious laugh escaped Jungwon as he strolled towards the kitchen. I chose to keep my back turned, feigning disinterest in his activities. Moments later, he returned with a bowl of intricately cut fruits, each piece artistically drizzled with chocolate. Raising my eyebrows, I observed his actions with a curious gaze.
Despite my best efforts to resist, the temptation proved too strong, and I succumbed to the allure of the delicacies before me. I selected a strawberry, popping it into my mouth with a soft hum, savoring its delectable taste.
Jungwon chuckled warmly as he placed the bowl in front of me, settling down beside my legs. "Apologies if I made you feel a bit envious," he remarked with a smirk, playfully patting my bare knee.
"I wasn't jealous," I mumbled between bites, a hand covering my mouth.
"Of course, juju," Jungwon teased, watching as I indulged in the sweetness of the fruits. "Seems like you're easily won over." He shook his head in mock exasperation, a fond smile playing on his lips.
As I finished the last bite of the delicious fruit, Jungwon's playful facade faded into a more contemplative expression. He reached over, grabbing my hand in a slightly too-firm grip, his touch surprisingly warm. "You know, Jurin," he said, his voice carrying a mix of seriousness and jest, "jealousy doesn't suit you. It's almost as unflattering as your taste in music."
His comment caught me off guard, a playful retort forming on my lips. "Hey, my taste in music is impeccable, unlike your fashion sense," I shot back, a smirk tugging at the corners of my mouth. Despite our banter, there was an underlying tension, unspoken words hanging in the air between us.
Jungwon's thumb traced absentminded circles on the back of my hand, an oddly comforting gesture. "I get it, you worry. But hey, we're a team now, remember? No need for doubts," he remarked, his tone a mix of reassurance and challenge.
Rolling my eyes playfully, I quipped, "Oh, great, now I have to deal with your ego AND your so-called wisdom." Despite the teasing, there was a softness in my tone, a hint of something unspoken lingering beneath the surface.
As the evening progressed, our playful bickering evolved into a comfortable rhythm, punctuated by shared laughter and familiar banter. Amidst the casual exchanges and lighthearted jabs, a subtle shift occurred, deepening the unspoken connection that had always simmered between us, hidden beneath layers of rivalry and camaraderie. And as the night drew to a close, I couldn't help but acknowledge the unspoken truth - in Jungwon's company, I had found not just a rival turned friend, but a confidant, a companion in the intricate dance of friendship and unspoken longing.
