4 MORE DAYS... Four more days remained before the end of our adventurous field trip. The realization dawned on me that our time here was swiftly coming to a close, after what felt like a whirlwind of experiences packed into just over a week. Lost in my thoughts, I found myself gazing absently at the coffee cup in front of me, mesmerized by the gentle dance of the liquid as the sugar slowly dissolved, creating intricate patterns within.
My reverie was interrupted by Jungwon plopping down next to me on the couch, his playful demeanor evident as he inquired about my sleep. "How'd you sleep?" he teased, arching an eyebrow in anticipation.
"Comfy," I replied simply, shifting my gaze to the whimsical cartoon playing on the TV in the background.
Jungwon chuckled softly, a warm smile gracing his lips. "Glad I could ease your fear," he remarked, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
Hanni, always the lively presence, joined us on the couch, playfully commenting on our closeness with a scoff. "Y'all are cuddle addicts," she quipped, settling herself between Jungwon and me.
With a mischievous glint in her eye, Hanni added, "You have a cottage with her, let me have some time with her," sticking her tongue out in a playful manner as she leaned against my side, resting her head on my shoulder. I couldn't help but notice the slight furrow in Jungwon's eyebrows, it was as if he wanted to be Hanni in the moment.
"You better ask her out before Beomgyu does," Hanni suddenly advised, prompting a synchronized gasp of surprise from Jungwon and me as we straightened up, clearly taken aback by her unexpected revelation.
"Huh?!" we exclaimed simultaneously, exchanging bewildered glances as we processed Hanni's words.
"You heard me right. Beomgyu likes you, Jurin," Hanni divulged, scrutinizing our stunned expressions with a knowing gaze.
While I acknowledged Beomgyu's charm, I couldn't deny that my feelings didn't quite align in that direction. "I mean, he's cute and all, but... I don't see him that way," I confessed with a sigh, rubbing my temples thoughtfully. "And let's not forget the prank he pulled on me a few days ago," I added, prompting a nod of understanding from Hanni.
Turning to Jungwon, I noticed a flicker of unease in his expression, his thoughts clearly preoccupied as he processed the unexpected turn of events. Jungwon almost seemed angered.
"Good morning, everyone!" Yuri emerged from her room with an infectious energy, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Mornin'," the three of us chimed in unison, our attention drawn to Yuri as she gracefully made her way into the living room, her presence dimming up the space. We silently scoffed when she entered the living room.
Yuri's gaze fell on Jungwon, who seemed to be wearing a slight frown, a hint of unease clouding his expression. She immediately turned on her charm, playfully pouting as she reached out to tuck a stray strand of hair behind Jungwon's ear. As she leaned in closer, a pang of something unfamiliar stirred within me. Why did Yuri's antics suddenly bother me so much?
Jungwon, caught off guard by Yuri's affectionate gesture, blushed and gently pushed her away, his cheeks growing warmer by the second. Yuri, unfazed, teased him further, her finger grazing his cheek causing his blush to deepen. "Oh my goodness, Jungwon, you're seriously hot," she remarked, a mischievous glint in her eye as she rested her hand on his flushed cheek.
Unable to ignore the strange mix of emotions bubbling up inside me, my hand instinctively shot out to intercept Yuri's wrist. "I can check if he's fine," I interjected, locking eyes with Yuri in a silent challenge. Our gaze held for a moment, almost like a silent standoff, before I gently moved Yuri's hand away from Jungwon, positioning myself protectively in front of him. Leaning down, I placed my hand on his cheek, feeling the warmth radiating from his skin as our eyes met. Yuri huffed in response before sauntering off to the kitchen, leaving a charged atmosphere in her wake.
Hanni, ever the voice of reason, intervened, pulling Jungwon towards her and placing her hand on his forehead. To everyone's surprise, the heat that had enveloped Jungwon seemed to dissipate, his blush fading away as quickly as it had come. "Don't treat me like a toy," Jungwon protested, a hint of annoyance in his voice. "I was just feeling warm with everyone crowding around me."
Shifting the focus to lighter matters, I turned to Hanni with a hint of desperation in my voice. "Any idea when Beomgyu might finally ask me out?" I inquired, clutching her hands for moral support.
Hanni shook her head with a smile. "Nope," she replied simply, causing me to groan in disappointment as I slumped against her shoulder.
"Must be tough," Hanni commiserated, patting my back gently while stifling a laugh at my melodramatic display.
"Maybe just turn him down," Jungwon suggested, his tone surprisingly serious. Hanni and I exchanged amused glances at his unexpected input.
"Someone's feeling a little jealous," Hanni teased before rising with a stretch. "Well, Jungwon, time to start planning. You better ask her out before Beomgyu beats you to it. I'm off to grab a snack," she declared, giving Jungwon a reassuring pat on the shoulder before heading towards the kitchen where Yuri was.
