I WAS GENTLY roused by the morning sun filtering through the curtains, its golden rays painting the room with a soft glow. As I stirred, a sleepy yawn escaped my lips, followed by a reluctant stretch. Peering down, I noticed Jungwon still peacefully asleep beside me, his arm now draped lazily across my lap as I sat up, careful not to disturb him.
Glancing at my phone, I realized twenty minutes were left before the next game. I nudged Jungwon, coaxing him into wakefulness. He emitted a groggy groan and shifted, attempting to shield his eyes from the sunlight by burying his head in my lap. I lightly tapped his head, reminding him of the impending game.
"Jungwon, we need to start getting ready for the next game," I uttered, shaking him a bit more vigorously. He straightened up, shooting me a playful yet sleepy glare, his tousled hair adding to his disheveled appearance.
Suppressing a chuckle, I tried to smooth down his hair, only to have it stubbornly spring back into place. Jungwon, with a hint of a pout in his tired eyes, gazed at me. Grinning, I rose, went to my suitcase, and selected our attire for the day.
While Jungwon stretched, I headed to the bathroom to freshen up. I dressed in a pink long-sleeved top adorned with delicate jewelry, paired with gray sweats. I styled my hair into a sleek high ponytail, leaving a few tendrils framing my face. Satisfied with my appearance, I sprayed a hint of vanilla-scented perfume before stepping out.
True to form, Jungwon was waiting outside the door with his chosen outfit. His gaze lingered on me briefly, a subtle smirk of approval playing on his lips, before he headed into the bathroom.
Puzzled by his reaction, I shrugged off the momentary intrigue and put on my socks. Seated on the edge of the bed, I idly scrolled through my phone, awaiting Jungwon's emergence. After a few moments, he emerged in a simple maroon sweater with beige writing, paired with beige cargo pants. A faint whiff of cologne enveloped him, a nod to his sensitivity to scents.
I slipped on my shoes and led the way out, making our way to where our classmates had gathered for the upcoming game. Reuniting with my friends, our faces lit up upon seeing each other. I hurried over to them with a wide grin, settling in between them as we caught up. Glancing back at our cottage, I noticed Jungwon leaving and joining his group of friends as we all assembled for the game.
Lost in thought, my gaze inadvertently fixated on Jungwon until Danielle nudged me back to reality. Startled, I refocused on her. "Yeah?" I questioned as she shook me out of my daze.
"You're burning holes in the back of Jungwon's head," Hanni laughed, earning a gentle nudge from Hyein to halt her teasing. "We've seen how y'all act with each other." Danielle's mischievous smirk hinted at secrets unearthed.
"What do you mean?" I played dumb, feigning ignorance about their observations. Did she somehow witness Jungwon and me cuddling? Anxious thoughts swirled within me, my hands growing clammy.
"We've heard from some little birdies that Jungwon's wallpaper features a snapshot of your skincare session, complete with him hugging you from behind," Minji divulged, the group's smirks turning towards me. A sharp intake of breath preceded my search for a plausible explanation.
"You don't have proof—" My protest was abruptly cut off by Haerin revealing the incriminating picture she had covertly taken of Jungwon's lock screen.
I faltered, my mind blank as I struggled to articulate a response. "Give it up, you've fallen for him," Minji consoled, patting my shoulder. Defeated, I covered my face with my hands, overwhelmed by the revelation.
"What else happens in the cottage, hm?" Hyein leaned in, her raised eyebrows hinting at hidden stories waiting to be unveiled.
"We sometimes... cuddle," I admitted tentatively, prompting gasps from my friends. Shushing their reactions, I defended, "What! It isn't that big of a deal. Is it?" My hands intertwined nervously in my lap as I sought reassurance.
"Juju," Hanni's shocked expression mirrored my inner turmoil.
"Yeah?" I responded, awaiting their collective verdict.
"It is a big deal!" Their unified declaration was followed by playful shaking, leaving me momentarily disoriented before they relented.
"I didn't realize it was a big deal. I suppose it felt natural. You all know I have a habit of hugging things in my sleep," I confessed sheepishly, cheeks flushing as their teasing escalated, fingers playfully prodding my sides.
"You like him, girl," Danielle stated matter-of-factly, prompting a quizzical look from me.
"You think so?" I sought confirmation from my friends and met with unanimous nods. "I'm not sure, guys," I admitted, feeling the weight of uncertainty settling in.
"Well, I guess you'll find out this game," Hanni's sly smile hinted at anticipated revelations, adding to my mounting apprehension.
"What do you mean?" I inquired nervously, their chuckles indicating a shared secret ready to unfold.
