Diana doesn't get much sleep that night, or the following nights. She spends hours tossing and turning in her bed trying to get to sleep. Her mind replays the image of Leah's toned body straddling her's, the feeling of her warm breath hitting her face due to their faces being mere inches apart. The warmth radiating off the taller girl makes Diana feel all hot and bothered despite the freezing temperatures outside.
When she does finally fall asleep, properly for the first time in days, her dreams aren't of anything pleasant. A prophetic dream overcomes her, leaving the slayer to thrash around violently in her bed. Dozens of images flash through her mind and are as clear as they always are- which is not very much.
Red. Red eyes. Blood. Screaming.
Diana wakes up in a cold sweat, knowing that this can only mean one thing. Vampires. She jumps out of bed, seeing that it's almost five and gets ready for her run. Her usual route is long but today she decides to circle the entire town, sensing that there is something more sinister than even the Cullen's lurking around the small, rainy town of Forks.
She runs right up to the border between Forks and La Push, hoping to get lucky and spot one of the wolves to warn them. Diana isn't particularly fond of working in a team, nor is she good at it, but there is too much ground to cover for just her alone. It may have been possible if she didn't have a normal life to live at the same time but she isn't quite ready to give that up yet. Ever since the arrival of the resident family of vampires, which confirmed the presence of the supernatural in this world, she has been debating whether to lead a life similar to her old one or to leave it all behind and resume the normal life she has built for herself so far.
"Paul, right?" She calls out, seeing a glimpse of his familiar grey fur. The large wolf comes to a sudden stop upon hearing her voice. He turns to face her, not letting his guard down for a second. "You and your pack need to be on high alert."
Paul gives her a stern look, pointing his head over to the direction where his current patrol his heading. It is almost as if he is saying 'what do you think I'm doing?'
"No, right, yeah." Diana responds, shaking her head. She opens and closes her mouth a few times, trying to explain what she had seen. "Listen someone is going to be killed by a vamp- or already has been I'm not to clear on that part yet. I don't think it's the Cullens, I think there are other vampires on their way to Forks." She warns him vaguely.
He nods his head, unsure of what to make of this message, but decides to relay it to Sam when he has finished patrolling. His pack leader believes that the wolves and Diana aren't enemies, despite her threatening words towards him, and Paul is choosing to believe the man until he is proven wrong. The wolf turns to leave but Diana calls out to him once more. "Thank you, Paul."
The blonde continues her run around the town, trying to look for any signs that the vampires are already here. She finds a few signs of scuffles, but mostly between human-like footprints and animals- which she suspects is of the Cullen's doing. The familiar stench of the boy who sits beside her in Spanish fills her nose, confirming her theory. Other than that she finds no signs of any threats towards the town, which only worries her all the more.
The sun is now beginning to ride, signalling that it is time for Diana to return home and get ready for school. To her surprise her dad is heading out of the house when she gets there. "Where are you off to?" The girl asks, a sinking feeling appearing in her gut. She knows exactly what has happened and where he is heading.
"A security guard's body has just been found." Charlie says grimly. He looks over at his daughter, noticing the absence of the taser and pepper spray he had bought for her a couple of years ago. "Maybe you shouldn't go running for a while. At least not without any protection."
