Sirens….all I could hear were sirens.

“Tulungan niyo ‘yan.”

“Tabi kayo, bilis.”

Kaye’s body were surrounded by crowds while me? I couldn’t help myself to get up. I feel lifeless.

“Miss, okay lang kayo?” A male medic appeared in front of me. Tinulungan niya akong makatayo.

“K-kaye? Where’s Kaye?”

I slowly opened my eyes only to be greeted by the blinding lights and white ceiling. I also felt the soft mattress behind my back.

“Thank god, you’re awake. How are you feeling?”

I grunted when my back hurts and the back of my palm stings.

I looked at Aeros and noticed his worried face. His eyebrows were furrowed.

“Where’s K-aye?” I asked instead.

He quickly looked away and heaved a sigh.

“Kaye’s been taken care of right now. The surgery isn’t done yet.”

“I have to go. I- I need to see her, Aeros.

Aeros shook his head aggressively.

“No.” He said, firmly. “You stay here and rest, we’ll see her when you are already okay.”

“I am fine!”

“No, you’re not.”

He immediately embraced me.

“H-hindi ko na alam ang gagawin ko. K-kaye, she’s the only family I have, Aeros. I-I can’t lose her.”

“No, you won’t. Kaye’s a fighter, alright? Everything will going to be fine, baby. Don’t worry, I’ll be with you.”

Aeros’s warmth was enough to put me back to sleep. When I woke up, he brought some food and fruits for me.

A female doctor came inside, still in her hospital scrub.

“Patient’s guardian?”

“Yes, doc.” Aeros answered. Kaagad akong napaayos ng upo sa kama.

“The operation went fine. Good thing she was rushed here immediately, kung natagalan ay baka naubusan siya ng dugo.”

“There was a bilateral damage to her medial temporal lobe and diencephalic midline, so there’s a possibility of amnesic syndrome or the impairment in the ability to acquire new memories or much worse, comatose, especially that the limbic system—which controls the emotion and memories was also affected. Let’s just hope for the better and fast recovery of the patient.”
